First Cruise Question

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

I am surprising DW with a 4night Bahamas Cruise for her Bday. We are departing Sept 5 on the Majesty Of The Seas. Itenary is Nassau, CocoCay and Keywest, back to Miami.

I had booked the Guarantee Inside Cabin, and found out when I checked online that I had already been assigned a cabin. It's cabin 3003, deck 3. This is our first cruise, and I did do a search to find more information on the guarantee rooms (which said the rooms were assigned upon check in). This room is like the LAST room near the front of the ship. How is this room for first time cruisers, and is there any way to get them changed/upgraded?

Thanks for all your help.

Hi! Not familiar with your ship, but a few generalities might help.

1 - the lower the deck, the less motion you'll feel. Now being that far forward, you are going to feel more movement from waves etc. If you get seasick or DW does, you will most definately want to take dramamine or bonine or something with you just in case.

2 - from reading these boards, you can sometimes upgrade at the dock if there are rooms available. You'll have to pay the difference in their respective fares when you do the upgrade. If you can, try for a mid-ship location - less motion and more accessible for upper decks and venues.

One advantage to front of boat - less foot traffic and will probably be quieter.

Have a great trip!! I hope your DW loves it!:D

You will definately feel motion towards the front of the ship. Unfortunately with a guarantee that is the chance you take. Why don't you try calling RCI to see if another room is possibly available? Stress that this is your first cruise, your wife's birthday, yada, yada. It couldn't hurt and you might get lucky if the ship isn't full.

I just wanted to say how nice a surprise that will be for your wife. Have a wonderful time!

Yea, I am having a fun time trying to hide it from her...she suspects something is up... (women's intuition i guess). I was trying to find a deck plan to post her, but dont know where to look. I saw one earlier (dont remember where), where the room was the LAST room on deck three forward.

Are my chances better for calling right now and changing it...or upgrading (for a discount...hopefully if the ship is not full) at check in.

Thanks once again for your assistance.

I hope you're early risers or sound sleepers. :) We did a last minute booking on the Majesty and the only cabin left was way forward on deck 3. The sound of the anchor being lowered in the morning was enough to wake the dead. Other than that, it's a beautiful ship and you'll have a great time.

My boyfriend and I are going on the same cruise. Did you reserve it recently? We thought we had purchased a oceanview guarantee for a good deal but being the newly addict that I am, checking daily to see if the upgrade fairies are by our side I realized the price had gone down even more!! The first time I called to receive our price reduction, the RCL "specialist" actually told me no that it wasn't possible b/c it didn't apply to our cruise. By then we had already made the final payment and been assigned our room. This being our first cruise, I learned from these boards that our room was not so bad being midship and close to the elevators. (Room # 3080) So not only did this "specialist" tell me I wouldn't receive my price reduction but he had lost our room also. So, I just called again and spoke to someone else who was more than happy to refund us and took it upon herself to get us our room back even though we had no say since it was a guarantee. To finally get to my point...if you didn't purchase it recently you can call and get your money back and you may be assigned another room.

Hi.. Actually I purchased it only 2 weeks ago,but I will still call and see if something can be done about it. The thing with the anchor is kinda scary.. I can sleep through just about anything, but DW is a light sleeper. Thanks for the deck plans Wirenut624!
