Cigarettes

They have both cartons for cheap in the shops, and packs available for $5.75. On the Triumph at least, the Casino Bar has packs.

Gee, that rather pricey for single packs, since there are not the usual US taxes on them.

On Princess ships, single packs purchased at the bars onboard are $4 apiece.

Individual packs are sold in the bars, but are expensive (around $7 a pack) and they only have four or five brands. Cartons in the Duty Free are about half what you'd pay at home and unless you smoke something strange and exotic they're likely to have your brand.

The cheapest place to buy cigarettes is in Cozumel but brands are limited there.

Remember that you are only allowed 200 duty free cigarettes (one carton) per person when returning to the U.S./Canada. if your Darling Whatever doesn't smoke then you can bring back two cartons of your choice. While the five carton 'suitcases' are the best deal, anything you bring back and declare in excess of your limit will be taxed at $21.10 per carton.

Exception: If you visited St. Thomas or any other U.S. possession on your cruise you can bring back 5 cartons duty free, BUT YOU MUST HAVE BOUGHT 4 OF THEM IN THE U.S. POSSESSION (and have proof).

I do not condone smuggling in any shape or form but in the interests of full disclosure the odds of your being singled out and searched for contraband cigarettes are very low. HOWEVER, if you smell like *cigars* your odds skyrocket as they are very tough on those who try to smuggle Cuban cigars back.

Hope this helps!

Does anyone know if they've started carrying American Spirit brand?

Just off the Freedom last week - no American Spirit - they have Marlboro's, I think Pall Mall, not sure of what others - husband smokes Marlboro lights (gold) which they had. Bought a carton - customs did not check - should have bought more. You can buy a carton on the ship and smoke them there - not like alcohol -.

My last cruise in April on the Pride, Marlboro were $128.00 for 5 cartons with a deal that you also got 2 bottles of Bacardi free. We bought 10 cartons for my son and got 4 bottles of Bacardi free. Declared the cigarettes and had to pay an extra $80.00 in Baltimore. Still a lot cheaper than paying $60.00 a carton in Delaware. Funny, we didn't have to pay taxes on them last year! Guess it depends on who you get going through customs :D
