Westmark Fairbanks - nearby dining options

Read yelp reviews for the in-house restaurant for breakfast and it was bleak. any other suggestions for nearby locations so we can be back to the hotel for a 7:30-7:45 AM departure.

Also we will be arriving around 8:30 PM on a Wednesday and then need to check into our hotel. How late are restaurants open? Are there nearby options for lighter fare or even fast food?

If you are on a HAL cruise tour your tour leader will probably have suggestions but there aren't many options near the Westmark. We walked down to the Springhill Suites (Marriott) and ate dinner at Lavelle's Bistro which was very good but tends to be busy. It's between Cushman and Lacy streets on 1st Ave. I had read good reports in the AAA tour book and it was very good and very "local" feeling. As far as breakfast the dining room seemed really busy and we just picked up a muffin in the gift shop the night before. There will be coffee in your room. Since you don't arrive until 8:30 if you are on a cruise tour you will probably have a chance to eat in transit. They stop every 2 hours on the bus and if you are on the train you can eat in the dining car.

The Westmark Fairbanks isn't "known" for their food, but in all honesty, neither is the Fairbanks Princess Lodge.

Fairbanks restaurants tend to take orders until 10 or 11 PM. But the Westmark Fairbanks would require a taxi for two of my favorite local restaurants we like for dinner -- Chena's Bar and Grill, and the Pump House. However, the Thai House is close as it is located at 412 Fifth Avenue, and is one of my favorite local Thai restaurants. In addition to Lavelle's Bistro, Gambardella's is only a block farther from the Westmark.
