DH and I will be doing Silhouette Eastern Carib in December. Our 35th overall, 2nd Celebrity. But 2st cruise in almost 6 years. Would any of you be so kind so kind as to share your secrets, favorites, and must do's on her? Much appreciated...

The Silhouette is our favourite ship. The ship is beautiful and we found the service wonderful. While food is subjective, our group of 6 found the MDR food good to mostly excellent, so much so we cancelled our reservations in the Specialty Restaurants. Enjoy the caged birds, have a picnic on the lawn, and a sail away drink at the beautiful Sunset Bar!

Like yourselves. I was once a frequent cruiser but had not sailed for 5 years. I took the Silouhette's transatlantic cruise a couple of months back and was very pleased.

The ship itself is a completely different experience than the Celebrity and HAL vessels I was familiar with. Very upscale, classy, and elegant, it sets new standards for "cities at sea" without becoming crass and annoying. No zip lines, no rock climbing walls, no name-brand fast food joints -- instead one finds features such as a spectacular atrium with lookouts that house entertainment, a great library/reading area, a card room, an Apple computer lounge, etc. At the aft of the ship there's a great outdoor bar with view's of the vessel's wake. The principal breakfast/lunch buffet area is very well designed, with free standing individual stations featuring a variety of food themes, as opposed to the traditional "stand in line til you see what you want" approach.

And the food was quite good at all the restaurants, with the possible exception of the very popular Aqua Blu, where we had a less than enjoyable meal, with service well-paired to the cuisine. Another possible criticism is the ship's seeming focus on what they term "Elite" passengers -- aka, regular customers. Many venues are at times unavailable to non-elites, non-suites etc. We got a couple of good laughs out of this one, but you may want to get your previous "points" updated before you sail.

Net, net, I think you're in for a positive experience -- the ship itself being a driving factor.

The silhouette is one of our favorite ships and the only one we have repeated. After a fab cruise in 2013, we were fortunate to travel on this ship this year and just got off the ship last week.

Here are some tips :

- the hideaway is an awesome place for some nice cosy pictures

- there are 50% discounts at speciality restaurants on the 1st night and sometimes on the last night (we were docked in Venice overnight)

- other nights have a 20% discount at speciality restaurants

- at the entertainment court, get some informal pictures done, the photographers are great and you won't have just formal pictures.

- the burgers at the mast grill on deck 12 are the best freshly made burgers and hotdogs on the ship. It's an excellent alternative to the sometimes crowded oceanview cafe buffet. Or after you get back from a tiring excursion.

- there is extra storage above the beds (we missed this on our first cruise)

- the sky observation lounge is fantastic for a late night drink.

You will have a great cruise. Celebrity spoils you rotten and their hotel director Christophe runs a super ship.

The percentage off on specialty restaurants varies from cruise to cruise. I have gotten 50% off multiple times on different days. Just don't be afraid to ask!
