Just for fun - Frothy takes a Cruise

Some of you may have read ‘OurLOL’s’ recent account of life on board the Grand Princess on her recent Greek Isle itinerary. Unbeknown to some, she carried with her a stowaway... a 'gnomad'. Her name is Frothy and here is her account of the trip.

Ahoy there landlubbers,

Well I’m pleased to report that I arrived safely, albeit with my feathers a bit ruffled.

Unfortunately, on my way out to Venice, Easyjet weren’t too enamoured with my desire to be one of the crew and consigned me to the delights of the baggage hold. Once there I was asked to stand guard over the luggage. Well I wasn’t having any of that… it was absolutely freezing down there!! I had a few problems getting out of the aircraft as can be seen (below) and quite scared Laura when I appeared at the aircraft window. A quick emergency landing in Paris (oo la la) and I was guided to my seat and promised an audience with the captain.

The Grand Princess was, as expected, utterly delightful. This ship soon became my home from home. Not that my humble abode normally hosts a spa and gym you understand ~ no such luck! Anyway, I was thrilled with the boutiques where I could shop till I dropped; the casino and the Las Vegas type shows. I also mustn’t forget to mention the fine dining. Following our embarkation one of my first tasks was to locate my cabin.

As you can imagine, the ‘unpacking’ (ably assisted by my cabin steward Randy ~ nudge, nudge, wink, wink) made me ravenous! What did I do? Well, I referred to the Princess Patter and quickly discovered where all the important stuff was going on… you know like when the bingo and Princess Idol would take place and, most importantly, where to locate the food. I was starving. Naturally, I got lost and spent some hours trying to find Horizon Court. This in itself was a bonus as I was able to familiarise myself with the ship.

Me wandering around the ship!

Anyhow, the food looked AMAZING!! The diet was going to have to start on my return home. With my plate piled high I headed for a shady spot on deck to people watch… little knowing that my presence would soon be required elsewhere. The ship’s resident band was playing nearby and before I knew it I was dragged up on stage for an impromptu jamming session. I can tell you now that guy on my right was getting more than a little bit fruity. One of the photos below shows me… feeling a bit of a melon… or should that be a melon feeling a bit of me!! As luck would have it, I didn’t have to endure that chap’s advances for too long as the compulsory ‘Muster Drill’ was due to be held at 2 p.m.

Slightly worrying was that my travelling companions, had yet to be sighted anywhere!! Friends, I was beginning to get a nervous tic!! It did not bode well. In the absence of my true guardians I soon found myself taken firmly under the wings of another family who were cruising veterans.

Then, drill over and having opted for Personal Choice dining (with a reservation not until 8 p.m.) I found I had just enough time for a game of deck chess and a quick swim before dinner. If only I could have remembered how to get to the damn pools!! I did come across one of the lifeguards. Rumour has it that this hunk has a penchant for patchy tanned ‘older’ women, with a figure likened to Shamu!! I believe he rescues by appointment only. Note to self ~ I must practise my damsel in distress!!

Dining onboard is a sumptuous affair, especially the one off, never to be seen again, chocolate buffet. I thought to myself “put the chocolate in the bag and no one gets hurt”.

I’ve rarely caught sight of Laura, but the word on the street is that she has been preparing for a BIG event!! My evening plan has been to hit all of the high spots — a show, a game of poker in the casino (where I was hoping that if the croupier succumbed to my charms we might all be winners), and ‘Skywalkers’ the disco were I can strut my stuff.

Naturally, not all my time was been spent on board the ship, nice as she was. We went to lots of places. We started in Venice where the gondolier chappie tried to overcharge me. I said “How much, you’re taking the pizza”. Then on to Dubrovnik, Corfu, Katakolon, Athens, Mykonos, Kusadasi (where I felt I was definitely worth more than 12 camels) Rhodes, Santorini, and Naples! We also took a detour to Pisa to get me straightened out.

I can tell you now I was dreading the 6th August, the day of our return. I didn’t want to come home. The only thing I missed was a good cup of PG tips!

Oh yes… before I forget… the most important bit of all. Laura and Richard decided to renew their wedding vows and guess who got to be chief bridesmaid. Yep… MOI!! The Captain kindly offered to conduct the ceremony.

OMG Laura! Hilarious! Glad to have you back!

I love the wedding cake picture! Some of the other pics look a little familiar, minus Frothy :)

I enjoyed reading your daily posts and am glad you had a good time!

My goodness, that was adorable -- it really made my day!! Frothy didn't happen to be on the Golden Princess last April, did she ?? She looks amazingly like the woman in the next cabin.........

You didn't take my advice...to walk over the laundry for a few days. Can't believe you have so much energy after that long cruise. I'm always "zapped" for a few days after we return just pulling loose ends together. I certainly hope we have some Brits on our sailing...you guys are fun to be around.

I am hoping there will be someone on this Grand Aug. 6th sailing who is willing to send home their opinions of the "Grand" and all their different ports, excursions, "finds," etc. etc.

Take care, Laura...and definitely let us know when your next cruise is planned!!!!
