Expenses account for children

Recommended Posts

I am taking my 6, 9 and 11 year olds on a cruise next October, and would much prefer them to NOT have access to onboard spending, only their drinks packages. Does anyone have experience of not including the expense account for children and if so, how did it work for online check-in? Could you still proceed with the express card even though the expense account was incomplete?

Sorry, I am aware this is a stinker of a question but am hoping for a parent with experience of this...Thanks in advance :D

Many people do it. It won't be a problem. Coordinate with Guest Relations once on board. They can get a room key that only gets them in and out if the room and on /off the ship, no charges allowed.

Will i have to arrange an expense account when doing online check-in and then go to guest relations once I board, or can it be done beforehand? (sorry to be annoying..lol) :D

every passenger must have a CC linked to it prior to boarding. you can turn off charging privileges when you check in or at GS after you board

Start with setting up the method of payment for the XPress pass, which I think you only need one of for the family (someone confirm) and then talk to them at check in and again on the ship go to Guest Relations to have them confirm their cards' particulars.

One more comment before it's shut down! I just got off of the Summit on Sunday. I have a 12 and 14 year old. When previously entering my on-line check in, I had to set everyone up on our credit card and sign off on the Xpress pass. I thought that would give them the ability to charge for themselves. However, when my older one went to the use the card to purchase something in the gift shop, they wouldn't let him. I had to go to guest relations and sign another form allowing him to charge on his card/room key since he was a minor. I thought that was odd, but glad of it!

I am doing my third cruise this year with my mum, but I decided to take my children next year and they are all very excited about it....And they are determined to use the Fun Factory as much as possible...am thinking of paying for kids VIP too...do you have any information on that at all??

That's great that they are already excited about the Fun Factory! Unfortunately, I could never get my boys to participate (this was their 4th cruise.) I was considering the VIP pass on our previous cruise, but glad I didn't because they didn't want to go. But not to discourage you - some kids love the Fun Factory! A few times I saw groups of little ones doing a scavenger hunt around the ship (they even approached us to sign their sheet next to Maryland, where we are from.) I think if your kids would go for the dinners and slumber parties, it may help defray the cost of that in the long run.

Another thing - is your 11 year old that age now or when you take the cruise? Because 12 year olds are bumped up to the Jr. Teens and they don't let them switch groups easily. My 12 year old became friendly with a few 11 year olds on the basketball court but he couldn't join them in their activities.

Oh, and another thing they love is the arcade! We have obtained many rubber balls, stuffed animals, etc. over the past cruises (all for probably the cost of the VIP pass!) But it did give my husband and I some time for a drink, lounge or casino. So well worth with it!

Hope this helps a bit...

Because i am travelling alone with the children, and would like to socialise after dinner every evening, for at least a couple of hours, I am aiming for a 7pm dinner. That way after we eat, the children can get changed into play clothes and go to the fun factory and I will have until 1am to get them if they are VIP's and I will not have to pay on a nightly bases. This has been discussed with the children, and they are very pleased with that. My 11 year old will be 11 next year.. He turns 10 this Saturday, so won't be with the jr-teens. Don't get me wrong, I am not planning on being out until 1am every day, but it will be nice to have some time to meet people. Something i do not get to do when I cruise with my mum because she just wants it to be the 2 of us. Not allowed to speak to anyone and I am 41!!! lol :D:D:p

I get that! I cruised with my mom (and sister and grandmother) a few months ago without kids. So your planning sounds perfect. The children will love being able to "stay out" that late!

My experience in the past are any minors..their card will NOT have access to onboard spending automatically. You will have to ask to turn it ON.
