Rare Jim The Scot Posted July 7, 2014 #26 Share Posted July 7, 2014 (edited) But OV2 made up for it. It may have been because the ship was going to Singapore for a refit and rebranding before going on to Australia but the crew were fabulous and the ship was spotless. Entertainment wasn't as good (too used to Thomson) but others enjoyed it. Pricewise it was only a few pounds more than we paid for the TA in April which was 6 days less. Hi Jan We did Heraklion, then Dubrovnik, Venice, Korcula, Corfu, Zakynthos, Heraklion on OV2 We loved OV2 as she was our introduction to cruising many years ago with an initial one week cruise.Cruised a further 3 times after that on the bounce. The crew were always fabulous and ship was always spotless.Lovely cabins and excellent food.Looking back after cruising with Thomson agree that the entertainment wasn,t as good though Edited July 7, 2014 by Jim The Scot

First time we went on OV was the first year of her sailing and was advertised as "cruises for people who don't do cruises". Being linked to P & O we thought it would be fine so gave it a try. It was definitely a culture shock. The ship itself was great but everything else let it down badly, ie. dirty bedding, food left in fridge, dirty public areas, poor service, bar/waiter service virtually non-existent, entertainment not a patch on what we were used to with Thomson. We said "never again" but got enticed to do a TA and found it had improved slightly. However, OV2 was a different kettle of fish. It was probably because half the crew were going home from Singapore and the rest were staying with the ship and continuing with their contracts to Australia and once they got there. :)
Sheila49 Posted July 7, 2014 #28 Share Posted July 7, 2014 (edited) We also did that itinerary in June 2009 on OV2 for our first cruise and we loved it. Hubby had not been keen to cruise and took a bit of persuasion but even he loved it and was hooked! The entertainment was different in that there were some (very good) tribute acts and more comedy. Cabins were lovely and as there were lots of balconies they were only about £100 extra. Both restaurants were buffet but food was very good. CRUISIN LINDA Posted July 7, 2014 #29 Share Posted July 7, 2014 Yes the cabins were good and the food was excellent. Not sure why, but we didn't really like it. Very casual (well they did advertise it as such) but, I know this will sound snobby, but it was like Butlins on Sea :o:rolleyes: "Ducks down to avoid the flack" :D :D

Cant comment on OV as we only cruised on OV2 the first one 2007 and our first cruise was every bit as good as our last with regards to staff, food, cabins etc.We had nothing to compare against of course at that time We also did that itinerary in June 2009 on OV2 for our first cruise and we loved it. Sheila, possibly the same cruise :D.Now that you mention it,do remember some really good tribute acts and good comedians and as you say food was very good .Your right regards cabins with balconies. We had one(great)and it was around £100 extra just Linda, Snob ;) Yes it was casual but as you say was advertised as such bu certainly a lot more casual than Thomsons.Butlins On Sea?Dont think I`d go that far, never saw anyone with a Rab C vest ,knotted hanky on their head or the likes
Sheila49 Posted July 8, 2014 #31 Share Posted July 8, 2014 There was a girl who did an excellent Annie Lennox tribute act and one of the entertainments staff did Robbie Williams if I remember correctly. Never saw anyone in a vest but I think Linda did!:D

Hi Jim Having cruised with Thomson since 1989 (before they had their own ships) we thought we would give OV a try as the itinerary for the Med (14 nights) in August 2003 was slightly different. Were also curious about their sales slogan. Having said previously, the ship was great but the rest made us say never again. However we did go on OV again for TA crossing (21 nights) in April 2006. The OV2 repositioning cruise took in the last week of the summer season and was from 15 October to 16 November 2009.:)
