Women In Shorts MDR - Casual Night

Recommended Posts

If you have some critical thinking or rationale on the topic besides resting on "a rule is a rule, follow rules or leave" answer I'd love to hear it.

Well...we are on a web forum, not your college debate team of the past. It seems to me that you are the one that has some skills to sharpen. I'm not even sure what you are disagreeing with me about since you have not stated an actual opinion. You keep pointing at the sign and going "This is what the sign says". How is that a debate? That's stonewalling where I come from.

As is always the case it seems, when your arguments devolve into "you're irrational and lack critical thinking skills if you disagree!!" you tend to ignore the arguments which have been made, and then claim no arguments have been made.

I've stated several times, but once more for you: The complete set of rules that are set forth in writing by the cruise line are part of the vacation experience that we are logically choosing when we choose an RCI cruise or any other kind of vacation. We (collectively) have a right to expect that that set of rules and expectations really WILL be part of the experience we've paid for. If everyone adopts your attitude that they're free to pick and choose which rules and guidelines to follow, then there's no way of having much of an idea about what kind of cruise experience to expect - except that it will be rather chaotic.

Now you may choose to once again ignore that argument, as seems to be your style (who's stonewalling?) - but at this point I'm done in the thread. It really gets tiring to try to have an intelligent discussion with you, and then repeatedly get accused of "no critical thinking skills and irrational" as your best argument. Kind of reminds me of the old saying about mud wrestling with a pig - and I'm done mud wrestling with this pig on this thread.

These never ending dress code threads are so funny! People take their arguements SOOOOO seriously!:D:D:D And repeat their arguements here over and over and over.........:)

We'll keep wearing our casual clothes to specialty dining and windjammer. If we need a chuckle we can always imagine what's going through the minds of the "dress code police" contingent in the MDR:D

Let's get back to the original post

Casual night!!! Shorts.

ITS CASUAL NIGHT!!!

Not smart casual, not business casual, CASUAL!!

Which is why there are rules...what's casual to one is not casual to another...and I've seen pretty sad example of casual in the MDR that CAN ruin your appetite!

There's constant talk about "nannying". Some people are just not bright enough to make sensible decisions that are not offensive to those around them...and need to be "nannied".

This is why RCL is between a rock and a hard place on this issue. Allow shorts and some will wear totally inappropriate shorts or keep the rule in place and hope that those who choose not to follow the rule will at least wear shorts that are "dressier".

Under discourteous or disruptive behavior. And before you say it....if you're having sex, some portion of your body is not covered by clothing and is therefore considered nude.

"if visible to others onboard, on other vessels or ashore", we must not leave out those words.

Unless someone is peering around to your balcony (which makes them a creep); or you booked a central park or boardwalk balcony on 2 out of 21 ships in the fleet, doesn't seem an issue unless in port or next to another ship.

He may be a creep, but he will have company when both of you are thrown off the ship. What if I'm on my hump balcony and I look back and accidently see your extracurricular activities, does that make me a creep?

Did not read all the post but can assure you that given some of the dresses I have seen at each of the 14 times we have been in the MDR for dinner (many of which barely make it past the bottom of the glutes) I would much prefer those women wear shorts...especially the ones over 50 and that have a body that is, in my opinion, not even close to one that should be seen in public wearing an extremely short dress/skirt.

That said, I think the OP should follow the rule. They don't have to follow the suggested dress every night but should follow the rule.

If you keep watching, yes.

The guest policy clearly indicates when appropriate dress on a balcony is required. It does not say always. And it does not expressly prohibit any extracurricular activity.

Only if you complain

Now you are either just being silly or not enough of a man to admit you're wrong.

If RCI isn't going to enforce a rule, why do other cruisers think it's up to them to enforce it? Yes, apply this to MDR dress codes, chair hogs, alcohol smugglers, whatever.

If you see someone wearing shorts to dinner in the MDR and it bothers you that much, complain to RCI (waiter, maitre D, guest relations, whoever).

Why admit I'm wrong when I am not. I said point it out to me in the policy. I gave you the policy. It doesn't say what you claimed.

I see now that it's the latter. You continue to shred the credibility that you have with your other positions. But that is your choice.

By the way....I do agree that the shorts rule is a dumb rule that should be changed for casual nights.

Have a great day and smile. I'm walking down to the beach bar and enjoy my view of the Gulf.

You're still wrong though. Nothing to do with "man enough to admit" anything. You made a factual error. You claimed one thing, it was demonstrated your claim wasn't correct. Soothe your soul with a double at that sandy toe watering hole. It's a bit grey here on the east coast side of the state, hope you have nice sunshine and low humidity.

I just want to say I do not care what anyone wears in the dining room... or anywhere for that matter. Unless someone is actually sitting in my lap... I do not care what they wear.

I do like the existing policy that RCI has in place. I think there is a fine line as to what 'dressy' shorts and 'non-dressy' shorts can be. When the US Supreme Court can't decipher between porn and art... RCI shouldn't have to define proper shorts and non-proper shorts. Therefore... no shorts, no tank tops, no hats. How can that be a burden or ruin your cruise?

Someone on a ship somewhere right now... thinks this is appropriate and 'dressy' shorts... For me... I just prefer the no-shorts... but wear what you like... and take the risk... 6455.jpg

And there are also some people who dress beautifully but have really, really bad table manners. So its all swings and roundabouts. You can dress fabulously but be a complete nuisance.

It doesn't matter what anyone on here says. Somewhere tonight on a Royal Caribbean cruise, Shorts will be worn since the rule isn't enforced. Some might find it rude, but shorts will be worn.
