smdubowsky Posted July 6, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 6, 2014 We will be arriving in Villefranche and wish to go to the Chagall Museum in Nice. What is the best way to do this? We also wish to visit the old market in Nice. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Rare Hlitner Posted July 6, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 6, 2014 Since the best time to go to the Flower Market is in the morning we suggest that be your first destination. If you take the #100 bus (it is less then 2 Euros per person) to Nice, it will get you closer to the market then the train station. You get off the bus at the bus station from where it is about a 15 min walk to the market. You will need a decent street map to do this walk but the good think is that half this walk will take you through the narrow streets of Nice's old town. If you later want to walk all the way to the Chagall Museum it is about 1 1/2 miles. It can be done using local buses, but this might be a case where a taxi makes the most sense (assuming you can find a taxi). If you were planning to just go the Chagall Museum (and not visit the Flower Market) we would suggest taking the train since the Nice train station is a lot closer to the Museum. CintiPam Posted July 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 7, 2014 Because it is a bit of an uphill slog, I strongly suggest you take the bus after visiting the delightful Flower Market. Just a bit inland from this market, you can catch either bus 15 or 22 from Place Massena Guidry stop behind the very large Place Massena (vast open space). The buses run five times per hour except on Sundays. The bus stop faces eastbound on Rue Gioffredo, a block east of Galeries Lafayette department store.
