Teen club?

Recommended Posts

I've been on a couple cruises, but I've never went to the kid/teen club because I've always been shy. This cruise, I just wanna meet new people and hang out with people other than my family. I'm 14 (turning 15 in a month) and I'm going to be a sophomore, but I know that I probably will be stuck in the 12-14 year old group or middle school group, but i'll deal with it. So I have a couple of questions:

1. Are the 12-14 and 15-17 year old groups ever mixed together so I could talk to people in my grade?

2. Do teens always hang out at the teen club or do they mostly meet up there and go somewhere else?

3. How is the food?

4. What are the best activities to do on the ship?

5. The ports I'm going to are Cozumel, Belize, and Honduras. What are the best excursions to go to?

Thanks :)

Not 100% sure, but it sounds like you are cruising on Navigator out of Galveston. If that is true, for activities, you will want to check out the Flowrider surf simulator. All the way aft on deck 13.

Go to the teen club on the first night during their "meet and mingle" time. All the kids will be on their own and just meeting each other so it should not be as awkward. My kids have been done this and always make friends for the week.

A lot of the times kids will meet at the club and go do other things on the ship, or set a time to meet some place. After the first night most teens are out and about much more which is why that first night is so important.

Hey there, I loved the teen clubs when I started cruising. I'm a little old now so tend to hang out in bars/clubs/casinos on my last couple cruises, but to be honest I felt a bit sad to be too old for the teen club (but the alcohol made it better, I was 18 and 19 on my last 2 cruises :D )

1. In my experience they're pretty much always mixed together. Typically you meet after dinner, hang around for a bit, then go up to the sports deck for some basketball/dodgeball/football, then after 10pm there is a party until 1am when the teen club closes and the curfew is called. Then you spend the next couple of hours hitting the cafe promenade for some cookies and soda and avoid the security guards like the plague before finally retiring to your cabin for an hour or two of shut eye before breakfast. Brilliant times. ;)

2. For the two cruises when I was under 18(14 and 16), I found they were very different. The first time usually just did our own thing hanging out in one of the bars that allow kids or a lounge or something, and one the second one we were in the teenclub every night from 8pm to 1am enjoying the parties. Personally I preferred being in the teen club but it's best just to go with the flow.

3. ******G awesome

4. For me on port days I like to leave the ship after breakfast, around 9:30 or 10am and explore the port a little bit, with the exception of one port per cruise that I really fancy and will do a full day excursion. I will come back on the ship at like 2 for a late lunch in the windjammer and then hit the pool deck until it's time to get ready for dinner. Cruising days are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more fun. Do the flow rider, set up a mini golf tournament, climb the wall, go for a swim, and get sugarred up on the free ice cream at the pool. What's not to love?

I was a teen when I started cruising - not so much anymore ;)

For Cozumel, I would recommend Amazing Cozumel Race - although you would want to go in a group of probably 2-6 family members or friends.

For Belize, cave tubing if you don't mind a bit of a drive. You walk through the jungle for awhile (with your guide narrating) and then a relaxing float down a river and through caves.

For Roatan, sign up for Discover Scuba. It is a first time beginner lesson and then you go diving. This one of the top areas in the Caribbean to dive. If you can't or don't want to try scuba, then snorkeling is the 2nd best choice.

Have a great trip!

This is great advice. The first night is when everyone meets for the first time and friendships begin to form. Another thing to do is check the roll call for your sailing to see if there are other kids your age that will be sailing with you. My daughter did this a couple of years ago on our last cruise. The kids ended up with their own roll call and they friended each other on Facebook. They had formed a great relationship before the cruise began. Coincidentally, some of the families were staying in the same hotel as we were pre-cruise so the kids and parents got to meet each other before even getting on the ship.

The only time my teen was mixed with 15 17 was free arcade time. Yes my teen was always in god teen club, no food up there. A lot of teens hung out in other places , the pool and windjammer...i didn't see my kids that much, thats how much fun they had.

My DD, age 13, is also very shy, and was never willing to go to the "meet and greet." This past cruise I dragged her in there against her will -- and she ended up hanging with a group of friends for the entire rest of the cruise. She'll never miss the meet and greet again!

How did your cruise turn out? Wee you on the Navigator. We will be on the NOS in May with our DD who will be just weeks away from 14 On our cruise last year she went to the teen club the first night and a couple other times but as we were traveling during the school year there wasn't a lot of other kids here age. She did however meet on girl her age who she ended up hanging with the rest of the cruise.
