Just booked my first cruise on the Dawn!!!!

I know a new thread is probably not needed especially since I already have another one but we are excited so I started one.

 

I received a free offer through our local casino. I hear a lot of people on here complain about how the offers are not that great since you have to pay the NCF but I am VERY pleased with this deal. Here is what we got.

 

7 day Caribbean cruise from NOLA 04/12/15

Ocean view picture window. Room 8006

VIP check in

Free drink cards for both of us in the casino

$25 on board credit.

 

The total including fees, NCF, and insurance for 2 people was $568.50

 

We are so excited to get this deal. It would be $1800 if I were to book this through NCL right now. Either way $600 seems like a great value to me.

They have a free stateroom upgrade right now. Our package included a picture window ocean view. I asked the lady when booking if we could do the upgrade. She told me that we are better off with our room instead of the upgrade. She said we were in a good position on the boat and the upgrade would actually put us lower in the ship. Does this make sense or was she crazy?

Any balcony is better than ocean view. The balconies are decks 8-12 so yes she is crazy.

I just called and was able to get the current promotion. Had to pick between UDP, UBP, or $200 on board credit.

 

There were some problems with changing the reservation because we have shore excusions booked already. She ended up booking a new reservation while leaving the old one open until the new one is official. Because of this she had to book a new room number. Our old one was 8006 (I think, it is outside picture) and the new one is 5638.

 

Which one of these locations are better? Should I call back and try to keep my original room. This is our first cruise and my wife is convinced that if a room is still available then no one must want it.

I think your new cabin is a better location. It is close to mid-ship, where the cabin on deck 8 is way at the front of the ship.

Look at the deck plans . The sq. footage and if it is a obstructed view, near elevators etc.

I agree. It's on a deck with more "life" to it, as opposed to being, essentially, in the belly of the beast. 😉 The only difference in the room seems to be the location, and the higher the deck, the better. At least for me..

 

Midship is seen as preferable. Technically low and mid is the most stable, and therefore less rocky. Also, mid ship makes it easier to get to both aft and forward. If you're able bodied, it's not really an issue.

We are in our 30's and in decent shape. We have never been on a cruise but we do spend a lot of time in Vegas. Last year we stayed at the mgm, it seemed like it took us a half hour to walk anywhere from the room, I can't imagine that it would be worse.

And I like front of the ship, when I have the choice [but son HC, so have to go where HC rooms are] .

5638 is the one I would take .

It is down a dead end corridor so no foot traffic .

Central location and low on the ship is the very best place for a smooth ride .

 

Our last cruise was on deck 8 forward 8538 in a storm their was lots and lots of motion . Lots of walking from 8006 Too.

Just to be clear, your new cabin is not a balcony. Some of the earlier posts assumed any upgrade would be a balcony, but there are no balconies on deck 5.

oh yes that is correct. We never did get the upgrade that I inquired about earlier in this thread. 8006 and our new room are both picture window rooms.

Good. You'll probably be happy with either cabin. The only thing I would say is if you're worried about getting seasick (I think most of the people who worry about it don't really have a problem in the end), the deck 5 midship cabin is better.

 

I'd probably go with deck 8 forward, because I like the view from higher up. Having to walk a lot is actually a good thing. How else you gonna burn all those calories you're taking in?

The Dawn isn't that big, so front or aft, you'll be fine. Since you're fit, even better!

 

Frankly, I'd choose the front or aft for convenience of elevators, if nothing else. Mid ship elevators are a pain and if I were midship I'd probably walk to one end or another to avoid them anyway!

If your cruise is port intensive deck 5 is easy on / off the ship . :)

I'm gathering you like to gamble, so 8006 would make more sense because it's closer to the casino. Also, 8006 has cabins above it and the cabin on deck 5 has restaurants and shops above it which will probably be noisier.
