BINGO!

Maybe now the 'non-smokers are out to get us' nonsense will cease?

Perhaps if the cruise lines just told folks when they changed policy that the reason why is due to cost containment measures due to new regulations/insurance the "non-smokers are out to get us" nonsense wouldn't have started in the first place.

My Dh and I and the people we travel with are all smokers. Will we cancel because of the change? No. We have not been able to smoke in public places, most bars, hotel balconies etc...for years. We do enjoy a cig with a cup of coffee in the morning but enjoy vacations and cruising more. We don't smoke in our cars or our house, only outdoors. This just might be the motivation we need to follow through on our plans to quit smoking altogether:)

This is the most level headed and rational post I've seen on this subject since last week. If indeed many smokers are ruled by their cigarettes, I feel sorry for them. It's a shame that their lives are controlled by something as harmful as a smoking addiction. However, I think most of the people claiming they will now vacation on land are blowing smoke, pun intended. :) There's a big difference between a land vacation and a cruise and I would think that most of the people frequent this board because they love cruising. I wouldn't think it would be so easy to give up something you love....that is unless they love cigarettes more.

NO smoking on Royal Balconies...Sorry, I know how you feel.

I just called and even E-Cigs and vapo cigs will be banned on Balconies and in rooms. I think they will find that hard to enforce since there is NO smell to water vapor. Are they going to put cameras in our rooms next?? LOL

:D

There is a lot more than water in ecigs. A lot of them even have huge amounts of liquid nicotine which is an extremely dangerous substance.

and the Stewards will certainly know if someone was foolish enough to try to sneak this in their cabin.

Well, only a few months ago in January, he said no changes to the smoking policy....Did he lie or is he following Carnival's lead? Something's wrong with this picture for sure....talking out of both sides of his mouth, sorry to say.

Nobody that smokes loves cigarettes...(well some may but most do not). We have an addiction to nicotine. For some of us we have tried nicotine replacement therapy and drugs to no avail. I finally quit smoking when I started vaping. So yes I can see folks who can't smoke for 7 days giving up cruising.

As a past Carnival and now Celebrity cruiser this is how Celebrity handles those that violate the smoking and ecig ban. I once had to report my balcony neighbors for smoking, even after I loading announced that it was banned - kind of a friendly tip. I called security and they went to the neighbors cabin door. I DID NOT have to provide proof only saying that there was smoking next door. They had a "chat" which I believe was a warning. The smoking stopped for a day but started again - I cut and taped the warning out of the daily and posted it to their door with the fine highlighted. They never smoked again. So for those that say they'll take photos and what not - no need.

The E-cig. I have contains NO NICOTINE...Just water vapor and certainly no smell. It is a cartridge and no fluid is required.................No way anyone could even think they smell anything -- nothing to smell AND is not harmful....Get your facts straight..............sail on HAL....

Nope...Stewards would have no clue unless they saw you using it while standing in your cabin. There is no smoke smell from PVs at all. For many flavors there is no smell period. I have vaped on airplanes next to the cabin attendant and blew the vape in my shirt and she had no clue I was even doing it.

Believe me, I know it's hard to kick the habit, but it's very doable. I did it. The moment I found out I was pregnant, smoking was done. It's a matter of what's more important to the smoker, and for me, my baby was.

And for the record, even though e-cigs are banned also, if my neighbor was using one and I couldn't smell it, I wouldn't care. I would not "rat them out" or "tattle" on them. However, if I smell cigarette smoke, I would absolutely report them. To each his own, as long as our actions don't affect others.

Well it was always about money anyway regardless of which side you are on

So now the cruiselines get to save money by not installing them plus they will have an increased demand for balconies from people who wouldn't book them previously. Win win.

The one and only balcony we had was dcl in 2004 and the smell was unbearable and we had 2 adjoining balconies and still couldn't use them

Exactly what I was referring to, thank you.

Now, whether CCL actually does toss people off the ship is another thing altogether. They were never big on enforcing the rules they set.

Opposite ends.

One will stop cruising. The other hopes to stop smoking.

I love cruising too much to quit - If I have to choose my addiction then my health will be much better off and I will still enjoy my vacations an maybe live longer to enjoy more cruises!!....I quit for 10 years and really wish I had never started back and as I said this is a good incentive for me to quit again.

I put that question to Him yesterday.. Why the big 180 ?

Oh well .. If they make the change so be it , but it would have made a lot

more sense to put a 6 month window on it . That way most currently booked Pax would not be affected...

c'est la vie , Christmas in Portugal it is .. ;) ( the last place in the world that really knows how to do Christmas )

Just wondering if there is even one person out there who loves cruising more than they love smoking and will quit smoking as a result?

Just curious. I have never smoked so I am just wondering what I would be willing to choose. Like no desserts? No coffee? Both hard but doable.

Not passing judgement. Just curious.

Me. I posted it earlier and I would rather cruise than smoke. I have been wanting to quit and now I have a reason. :D

I don't think you have to worry about that. There are already numerous complaints on both Away ships with the casino smoking, and part of the announcement is going to be curbing the smoking in the casino as well. How they are going to do that (i.e. smoking and non-smoking sections?) who knows. I guess we will find out.

Might follow Holland America and allow smoking for active players only.

He said he had no "plans" to change the smoking policy....plans change all the time when the right motivation comes along.

No problem...Its real easy to be an active slot player without losing much more then 10 cents on a penny slot when smoking
