Hope the elimination of the Grand Buffet isn't permanent, it's the only reason we cruise.

This must be one of them jokes that just isn't funny!:rolleyes::confused:

Really??? After a day of travelling in planes that were too small filled with people that were too sweaty, it gave me a good laugh! :D

New to Celebrity not to cruising. We will be on a 10day Hawaii cruise Sept 2015, 5 days at sea. As long as the ship has a bar(s), check, food, check, pool(s),check, comfortable seating, check, and friendly folk, check (I think), I am good. Give me a lounger, a cocktail, and my kindle and I will be happy.

Activities, We don't need no stinkin' activities!!

There are plenty of things that may not especially appeal to me but I'm still glad they're there for others to enjoy. Even some of the great friends I cruise with love some things that I don't. The great thing about cruising has always been that there is something for everyone and the opportunity for each person to enjoy what he likes and still enjoy time together.

We were on a Transpacific B2B on Solstice with lots of sea days earlier this year and found the quantity and variety of activities uninspiring. It was especially bad on the first leg which was right before they implemented the staff cuts. The second leg had less cruise staff but the staff they had put in a lot of effort. However they still did not offer much variety.

This was our first experience on Celebrity after cruising mostly on Royal Caribbean before. There was a lot we liked about Celebrity but this made the cruise pretty boring. We have decided we will only use Celebrity for port intensive sailings.

I understand that people might not care for the activities but there are those that feel that they really complete the cruise experience. If you are a "lounge by the pool" person and they started to limit the pool hours and restrict the number of pool loungers you would probably be up in arms (and rightfully so).

And you'll notice, as we have, the many, many activities listed in the daily are money generating. It's things like wine tastings, scrap booking (a $20 fee), spa activities for a fee, lunch in a specialty for a fee, gym activities---many for a fee, casino tournaments, computer classes---some for a fee, and activities involving the shops. And these "talks" by the ship officers and the guys who run the computer room don't cost Celebrity anything extra because they're run by employees.

Where are the fun on deck parties like Caribbean night? Where are the smaller special buffets like the fruit or chocolate ones that they held by the pool? If you all really think back to all the activities they offered just two years ago, they're all gone due to these continuing cutbacks. Pretty soon, there will be no free activities and we'll all be relegated to just sitting by the pool or paying for activities. And Celebrity calls this Modern Luxury, and they think these cutbacks will attract their coveted younger demographic??????

You make a good point--I had not noticed how many of the activities are money-generating.

Personally, I will not miss a Grand Buffet Brunch, but despite the many posters who also said they would not miss it, half these people mention that they didn't like it because it was always so crowded--apparently a lot of people did enjoy the buffet. I think the only way Celebrity would bring it back is as an extra-cost event--which would reduce the crowds and make Celebrity some (more) money. (If Celebrity execs figure this out, I suspect we won't be hearing anything about food sanitation/health issues being a problem.)
