I hope you good people can help me.

We are doing the above cruise from San Francisco, therefore having to fly from Manchester (Cheaper and quicker than a transatlantic).

My questions are.... How formal are the Formal nights on a ship in America. Do they differ much from ships that sail from Southampton?

Obviously we are thinking of the weight of Dress Wear.

Thank you in advance,:)

I have not done an Alaska cruise for many years, but have heard and read from more recent travelers that Alaska is one of the most casually-dressed of all cruise itineraries. They tend to be port-intensive cruises, with the need to pack more rugged sorts of clothing for shorex there, so I suppose this stands to reason.

Oh, and in case you aren't aware, SF tends to be foggy and cool in the summer months. They get their warmer/sunnier weather in the early fall. It is NOT like Los Angeles weather-wise, so pack accordingly.

WE were on the Golden this past May. I took a sport coat, with dress pants and a neck tie. I saw very few tuxedo's, or evening gowns during either formal night. Luggage fees being what they are even here in the states, we try and travel as light as possible.

Have a great cruise.
