It is good for your round-trip train ride from Civitavecchia to Rome and back. It is good on buses and the metro (subway) in Rome. That doesn't include the HOHO buses. tidygirl Posted September 8, 2014 #28 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Do you know if the Regionale train makes a stop at the St Peitro station? That is where we will be starting our day going to the Vatican first and would like to save time

Viv0828 Posted February 16, 2015 #30 Share Posted February 16, 2015 So as I understand it, St. Pietro is the first train stop in Rome from the port and the closest to the Vatican??

axd Posted February 18, 2015 #32 Share Posted February 18, 2015 Best just to buy at the newsstand inside the station. You want to ask for a BIRG ticket. Hand over your 12E and they'll hand you the ticket. Just remember to validate in the box on the platform. (This is assuming it's a port stop and you are not disembarking, in which case you only need a one way ticket) Can I use a credit card?
Viv0828 Posted February 18, 2015 #33 Share Posted February 18, 2015 A few more questions What is a BIRG ticket? Are there ticket machines? Can I buy the tickets a few days in advance at another train station in Italy if there are machines? Grazie in advance.
CathyCruises Posted February 18, 2015 #34 Share Posted February 18, 2015 BIRG is a combo train/bus/metro ticket good for round trip travel. Cost is €12. You can buy them easily by walking into the newsstand at the station and handing over 12€ and they will hand you the ticket. There are machines but this is easier. You MUST remember to validate (time stamp) the ticket in the yellow box on the platform. You can probably use a credit card if you stand in line and buy your ticket from a live person. They use chip and pin credit cards in Europe and American ones GENERALLY won't work in machines.
euro cruiser Posted February 18, 2015 #35 Share Posted February 18, 2015 What is a BIRG ticket? Are there ticket machines? Can I buy the tickets a few days in advance at another train station in Italy if there are machines? Cathy has explained what the ticket covers. It is issued by ATAC, the Rome regional transportation agency not Trenitalia so no, you will not be able to purchase the BIRG at another train station in Italy.
