UDP--Limits?

We had the UDP on our Jewel cruise and loved it and have purchased the UDP for our upcoming Breakaway cruise.

DD asked me what were the limits on the UDP such as could we dine at Ocean Blue every night and I said yes it was my understanding that we could pending availability. Now dear SIL had another question.

So you go to dinner early at Ocean Blue and enjoy a fine meal with your UDP. A couple of hours later you find a little steak and salad would hit the spot and you head on over to Cagney's where there is a table available and you hand over your cruise card with the UDP sticker. So is there a limit on the number of times the UDP can be used on a given day or for the entire cruise?

My DS and SIL are hearty eaters and would have no problem going to dinner twice.

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I cannot find the answer. Thanks!

You can definitely go to multiple restaurants in one night using the UDP. However, I thought Ocean Blue was NOT included in the plan, that the UDP only got you a discount at Ocean Blue.

To answer your general question: no limit on restaurants per night OR per trip.

You could have your appetizer, dinner and dessert in 3 different restaurant if you wanted...

No limit,

Ocean Blue NOT included...20% off the regular 49$ per person...so still 39$ per person...

Have been thinking about the charge for Ocean Blue and even with a discount I think we will pass. After buying the UDP we still have so many options so no need to spend the extra.

DD likes fish but not usually her first choice and I cannot eat lobster so it will be easy for us to pass.

Really? The way it was presented to me was that it was for a single meal per night. Do you have a link to an NCL statement about this? The only one I found is http://www.ncl.com/udp/FAQ where it doesn't specifically state that it may only be used once per night, so I could see them inferring that restriction.

OK so now it get more interesting.

Perhaps NCL might chime in and provide an "official" response.

Plenty of people have reported eating at more than one restaurant in one night. I think NCL is extremely clear with the rules, even which restaurants incur an additional charge for an additional entree. If it's not written as being prohibited, why would you consider that it might be?

KC, where are you going when you sail Breakaway? Bermuda or Bahamas?

Every Day at Sea is a Great Day

Hi Robin

It's a 12 day (great prices) from NYC on 02/01/15 and a new for us itinerary. Ports are San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Barbados. and St. Kitts.

Have always wanted to go Barbados and DD always has said that St. Lucia was named for her so it's a win win for us.

We booked a mini suite at $1299 per person.

Sheila

Well, I'd rather be sure about the policy than assume otherwise. I'm glad others report that it is permitted. If accurate, I think this is great and if would encourage me to purchase it for my next cruise. I bought it last time and of all the meals we thought the sliders at Cagney's were the best starter, and I'd be happy going there every couple of days or so for those just to start the evening, or perhaps as a small bite during their last seating time. The ability to go to more than one restaurant in an evening certainly opens up the schedule options a bit (though it may not help the eventual gym visits...).

From my experience you can eat as many times per night as you want. NCL does not specifically state that you can because they want to keep the vast majority of passengers thinking that they cannot. Why ring the bell in passenger's minds by stating it is permissible? Underhanded way of keeping the restaurants less crowded.

I know, I know. All the other lines do it so NCL should too....

Justifying bad behavior by pointing out other bad behavior is never acceptable.

Besides Ocean Blue is not as good as its cranked out to be. The food tasted like it was laden with preservatives .... just like any restaurant on all mass cruise lines. Save you money and go to a nice land based restaurant for sea food ...

I can officially taste the difference between fresh and frozen sea food as well as fresh 1 day old seafood and never frozen several day old seafood and ocean blue tastes like 1/2 the stuff is frozen and thawed and then cooked and the other 1/2 is fresh but not the same day fresh ... even on the 1st day of sailing.

Why not stuff you face with three, maybe four meals. Whilst at it why not ask for a few buckets full of cola to wash it down with to maximise the value of the soft drinks package too. Pure gluttony.

Cruise food is loaded with preservations to keep it fresh longer. Technically speaking its no different from eating cardboard. Even the Ocean Blue restaurant while offering flavorful sauces topped over unpalatable meats is dangerously close to serving semi hazardous waste. Zakarian would never serve the kind of crap he serves on NCL in his NYC restaurant. Guess he figures the budget cruiser will be too enamored by flavoring of his sauces and too unsophisticated to know the quality of meat is lacking.

As a rule of thumb I eat less on cruises and use it more an opportunity to explore, sightsee and have fun!

I can understand why gluttony would come to mind, but that's not my intention. What I am doing is asking a question. And yes I do like to eat and if I found I was hungry later in the evening and some crème brulee at Le Bistro would hit the spot I would like it if I could pop in and order some.

Now my DS is young and skinny the kind you say has a "hollow leg". He is always ready to eat and having dinner more than once would please him greatly. If you can do this with the UDP that would be great, otherwise he can order room service, cruise the buffet or go to the MDR.

Asking a question to clarify exactly what you are purchasing makes good sense.
