Jumping Ship

Silversea has their hands full with the conflicts going on off the Mediterranean Sea. Voyage 1433 had a port deleted just a few weeks ago, an overnight in Alexandria was substituted with an overnight in Ashdod Israel. That crushed us due to our plans on visiting friends in Egypt. Lately even more problems are going on in Israel. A bunch of other cruise lines are now deleting Ashdod see link http://www.latimes.com/travel/la-trb-israel-cruise-lines-20140723-story.html?track=rss .

So with great regrets we are jumping ship and moving our reservations and travel plans to Voyage 1430, by-passing the whole region. I know its going to cause us great pain in new airfare, available rooms and excursions but it pails in comparison, to what the company "Silversea" must be going through in moving ships, port reservations and commitments? I am sure they will follow suit with other cruise lines and start looking for new leases or tie-up spots on ports, but we don't want to be wondering a few weeks before a cruise to where we are going....

Wish all the luck to other guests making the grinding decision in jumping ship....

Hello Carefree -

So sorry to hear... How frustrating.

We had a similar situation last year before our Sept cruise... Istanbul (which had the rioting happening), Cyprus (rioting and currency crisis), Egypt (war), Israel (Syria threat)... SS dropped the two Egypt ports in late July and added a 2nd night in Ashdod, plus Marmaris in Turkey... Plenty of time to make an informed decision but the rest were touch and go.

We held our breath... Nothing else was dropped, but the ship only had something like 215 pax (the Cloud)... David the CD kept joking about crew outnumbering pax... Really intimate cruise, and we consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have been able to visit.

Egypt goes back on the bucket list... Sigh.
