Low Sodium options?

Greetings all...I was inspired by the weight watchers thread to ask this question.

 

This (Legend, 8/17) will be my first cruise since being diagnosed with high blood pressure. It's proven to be resistant to medications (dropping, but not as much with most people, and not down to desired levels) so I am making every attempt to really limit my salt intake (so I don't end up on multiple meds). Fortunately for me my cholesterol numbers are good, so it is really just a salt issue.

 

Does anyone have any idea or has anyone had any success on how to accomplish this? Soups, I am assuming, are a bad idea, and I know bread is often a hidden source of sodium, but any and all suggestions are welcome.

I also have the same issue with salt. I am on the "water pill" I drink more water than I normally use to, and now I am knowing what foods I need to stay away from that would cause it to go up. Most foods have salt in them. For me some pork, pickles of course. I have starting using all fresh or frozen veggies, I hate the can ones now everything to me taste way to salty since I have limited my intake. WATER WATER WATER they say walking is great!!! You still will be able to enjoy your cruise!!

When my mother sailed with us on the Magic several years ago, we contacted the special needs dept and requested a low sodium, diabetic diet for her. Every night a dietician came to the table and helped mom select her meal. It all looked delicious and according to mom, it was! This was in the MDR, but she gave suggestions when eating buffet, etc. Try calling them!

When we book our cruises our TA always asks if there are any dietary restrictions and this is when I tell them no salt for me. Usually your waiter will ask when ordering if you have YTD and I tell them also.

I would avoid the ship water, and any drinks made with ship water (tea, lemonade, etc). It is made from sea water. It is processed, filtered, and purified with chlorine. I am not sure whether it is traces of sea salt left in the water, or if it is the chlorine and other purification additives, but the ship water makes me swell. I normally only swell with excessive sodium consumption. When I stopped drinking the water, the swelling went down. I usually drink spring water at home.
