Gem vs Breakaway?

Have you read reviews and viewed photos of both? i'd start there.

Breakaway is newer and larger. It has more options for entertainment and dining. Great waterslides (Gem's waterslide is for kids at best). You need reservations for some shows on Breakaway. You don't on Gem. Food is similar as is service. I think Breakaway's cabins are slightly larger and more neutral in decor.

I like both and enjoy their differences. Some with whom I cruise prefer Breakaway, some Gem. I am neutral and would go on either. I love Gem's The Great Outdoors and Spinnaker Lounge. Breakaway has its own cool decks and other outdoor venues.

Best to check them out for yourself!

The Gem is overall better, it is less crowded then the Breakaway and the shows does not fill as fast as the breakaway. If you do not make any reservations by day1 on the breakaway, all of the shows can be booked preventing you from see any of the shows in the theater or comedy.

We have sailed both and we prefer the GEM. The Gem has a better Bliss Lounge, Bali Hai, better kids club, and the GEM has the great Spinnaker Lounge where the Breakaway doesn't. All the big events are held outside and if the weather is on the cold side, it is not such a great time. The pool area on the Gem is a better lay out and easier to keep an eye on children. The slides are nice on the Breakaway but they take up too much deck room. The Breakaway has really no place to lay out on the pool deck itself except for a few lounges. You have to go to the upper deck to lay out. We even like the casino better on the GEM.

This is only our opinion but I would cruise the GEM over the Breakaway in a heartbeat.
