Rare Peachypooh Posted July 31, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2014 Hi, I will be bringing along a folding cane for when we are on the ship and for port stops in Alaska for balance. Do the airlines and cruise ship allow this? It will be in my checked bag and brought to the pier in my suitcase. Thank you.
PennyAgain Posted August 1, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 1, 2014 You will have no problems with a folding cane in your checked bag. You also will have no problems if you decide to travel with a rigid cane in hand. You have the right to do so in airports and on your flights. Some of us have had folding canes fall apart. If you are happier with a good, solid and steady non-folding cane, do take one along with you!
OCruisers Posted August 1, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 1, 2014 No problem either in your checked or carryon. DH has some nerve damage in his leg which is normally not a problem but might "act up" so we always take a folding cane with us just in case. xxoocruiser Posted August 1, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 1, 2014 (edited) I don't pack mine since luggage can get lost or delayed. In fact I never pre-check any mobility equipment for the same reason. Rather it gets carried right onto the plane and stored in the overhead compartment. Don't want to get to the ship and find out that the cane never arrived. Edited August 1, 2014 by xxoocruiser

Don't want to get to the ship and find out that the cane never arrived. That's a good point. I will have to think about putting it in my carryon. Thanks. evandbob Posted August 2, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 2, 2014 Use of a cane or other assisting device can usually prompt boarding personnel to help get you to a speedy line to check in......depends on the personnel, the cruise line, and your mileage may vary. DesrtDrmr Posted August 4, 2014 #9 Share Posted August 4, 2014 I take my folding cane on board with me and fold it up and put it in the seat pocket in front of me.......that way I can use it if I have to go to the rest room and when I get off the plane. If you happen to be in a bulkhead seat, a flight attendant will put it in a closet or in the overhead for take off and landing, returning it to you during the flight.
