So Secretive

Recommended Posts

A few months before Quantum arrives at Southampton and we are missing info on the bars, lounges, casino, spa and some sort of Royal Promenade.

I believe there are still 5 "more to come".

Never has a ship been so secretive!

I agree. We are almost at final payment for the maiden voyage and there is so much yet to reveal. It seems a bit silly to not get more announced, unless they are scrambling to make changes to get the ship ready for China that they had not originally anticipated.

I had a call from royal in Miami last week regarding an email I had sent and when I asked about Quantum Deck plans or the lack of them I suggested maybe they are changing it for the Asia market after a rather long pause she said they still haven't finalised some of the plans and changes and that they would be released when they had, she also said that only a few people in the company were privy to this information and she couldn't tell me any more. so make of it what you will but I am thinking these changes will be for the Asia market.

Maybe all the dining areas will be noodle bars & Chinese takeaways lol:eek::rolleyes:

Yes final payment is next week and yet still we don't know about many things on the ship.

Never known a RCCL new build to still have so many "unknowns/more to come" at final payment time.

Not good, not nice, not fair.

Come on Royal stop this stupid secretive game...you are better than this....well you were anyway...now well

Come on Liz, you like I and many others were happy to book on the first day available. Sure I would have thought that they would have given more detail by now, but it hardly effects our want to book.

We know the product and that Royal will only ever step up to even more exciting things, they will not go backwards. Sure I know that some people will argue that over the years certain things have changed and as such are never the same. But we all know the brand is now more of a family holiday, and some do not like that or the payable extras. But we know that is now the way, and we knew that when we booked.

Relax and look forward to being part of another set of "firsts" with a cruise line that has rarely let you down :D

I have no 'inside' information, but know that one of the things in the 'pipeline' for the beverage side was a 'Liquid Lab' concept. Contracts and design and approach may have had to be adjusted after the announcement that Quantum would be based in China.

While 'Mamma Mia' fits culturally, having been the most successful musical attraction in Chinese history, other concepts may have needed to be 'tweaked' a little to fit market conditions.

I have even thought that RCI could have their first 3 ship show with Mamma Mia with one based in the US, the other in China and a third in Australia. If they considered this, this would involve a whole new negotiation of contract.

I have been interested to find out from some Chinese people in the hospitality industry that there has not been much hype about Quantum in Chinese press as well. I am not sure how accurate this information is or whether they are just poorly informed.

Well said. Can't understand why some are so upset.

People are upset because they booked based upon Royal's ability to deliver an innovative experience. They have consistently raised the bar on each new class of ship. In the early stages, there was the hype regarding Two 70, North Star, Bumper Cars, etc.

The last reveal was for Dynamic Dining which was months ago.

Passengers that booked the first day, ( myself included) based our booking on faith that Royal would pattern the reveal similar to the launch of Oasis.

Now that many are close to final payment, it is only fair to reveal what they have in store for their paying guests.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect cruisers to know what they are buying before final payment.

Exactly. I still plan on going, it is just that i am having to take some things on blind faith at this time. I will be laying out a few thousand dollars to take this sailing. I dont think i am being unreasonable to expect Royal to tell me what I am getting for my money. My goodness, too many people here take things as a personal affront when you give any critical feedback to Royal

My issue is that when the first reveal was made there was an implied promise of many more WOW's to be revealed in the coming months. I don't feel that the reveal of Dynamic Dining is a WOW factor. In my mind that is a toss up on whether it is a positive change or a negative one. I really have to try it to have an legitimate opinion.

I still think they have WOW plans that are stretching their technology capabilities and have not reached a comfort level yet that they can do what they want yet.

Hence leaving room for a plan B

Since this ship is going to Asia I would expect them to put in a mahjong room. Maybe an Asian restaurant. Any other ideas.

PS the Norwegian Spirit was built for the Asian market but the pier sinking of another Norwegian Ship caused the ships to be switched.

The Spirit had a Mahjong room.

From what I hear from my source is that the RCCL team working on the QOTS is done worrying about it and is only concered about AOTS right now, since it's going to China. Unless something big happens in the HQ of RCCL don't expect to see much more then we already already have.

I have thought right from when they announced the QN was going to China that RCCL were done worrying about it.

The fact they put up the Anthem deck plans before DD was announced for QN ..well that set off alarm bells in my head, sad to say.:(

I have cancelled my 11/23 Inaugural reservation on QN but sooooo looking forward to our Maiden voyage on 11/2 :D :D

Just received an email indicating the Countdown and it is also on RCI homepage.

The future of cruising is almost here. In less than 100 days, Quantum of the SeasSM will launch. Prepare for a vacation revolution. Join the Inaugural sailing on November 23rd and witness higher flying thrills, more immersive entertainment, dining to rival metropolitan culinary scenes and innovation never before seen at sea.

Will you be among the first to experience it? The countdown has begun.

Just noticed on RCCL US website that it says -

Countdown to Quantum - 100 days.

I guess they are not even worrying about the Maiden Transatlantic Voyage being only actually 83 days away :(

Yeah, that's kind of weird. I see it when logged in they added replaced the countdown banner with a Quantum 100 day one and right below it mine says 105 days until the Inaugural so I'm guessing they are saying we are 100 from the 3 night sailing. IMO the 2 and 3 are little preview sailings and don't hold a significant date. Seems like they should be counting to either the maiden or inaugural, but this is the new royal caribbean team, no logic or thought in there decisions.

We have final payment coming up and the ship isn't finalized. I think most people, like myself, booked day one trusting royal based on there history, but this new team has shown time and time again that they have no idea what they are doing and it is certainly leading most to doubt this ship. They seemed to give up on here 18 months ago when they chose to attend the Oasis III steel cutting in person and skyped in for the Quantum keel laying and Anthem steel cutting. They really don't seem to care about this class and have literally been phoning it in for the past 18+ months.

I completely agree about how Quantum was not worried about after its move to China. I'm not the biggest fan of the dining, but I was open to trying it. After not having the complete info about Quantum and hearing about possible changes because of China, I decided to not even consider the ship for our 2015 vacation. Will possibly consider Anthem for a cruise after reading some reviews and becoming more familiar with the ships after they debut. I feel like Quantum's first season in the US was just thrown out the window in favor of China.

Can you explain this "new team" to me? Were they a new team for the Quantum class ships?

There is no new team and i can say you that the people from the newbuilding team care much about this new ship. It tooks 3 years to design that ship and Quantum has more details than any other Royal Caribbean ship.

It is only marketing what Royal is doing here and it works. People write so many about this ship because there are so many secrets.

The people from Newbuilding and Fleet Design are the same people who design Oasis and Allure and all the other ships.

Quantum will bei an incredible cruise ship and we will get the informations about the Royal Promenade soon.

There are a lot of new team members on this build, for a start Lisa Baur has moved on and she was a huge part of Oasis & Allure build.

A lot of Celebrity staff have joined Royal Caribbean in the last 2 years, hence why there have been so many changes in policies etc.

Nick Weir who is VP of Entertainment came from Celebrity.

Also they have a new SVP of Marketing.

I can assure you that there are a lot of new team members involved in Quantum of the Seas.

And it shows. :(
