Luggage Transfer

We are arranging our own air. When we get to our final destination, will the cruise line transfer our luggage to the ship if the cruiseline's luggage tags are attached, or will we have to claim our luggage ourselves and take it with us on the cab? and if so, should we not attach the tags until we get to the ship?

With new security measures in effect, you must claim your own luggage at the carrousel. We put our cruise tags on at this point.

If you have cruise line transfers, you will take the luggage to a designated point. [You can use the airport skycaps if you want to. You are responsible for tipping the skycap.] From there, the cruise lines take over.

If you do not have cruise line transfers, you are responsible for getting to the ship. Drag the bags and grab a cab. Often this is quicker and costs the same or less than using the cruise line transfers.

Hope this helps,

Charlie

You will be doing nothing different transferring your own bags to the ship. The process is about the same either way, just done more efficiently and probably cheaper by arranging it yourself. Gone are the days where the cruiseline claims your bags and carries them to the ship for you without you touching them yourselves.

However, some lines have started a service in which you take your bags early and they carry them to the airport for you. I think, so far, this service is only in Vancouver and only certain cruiselines and airlines are participating.

Hi, We have cruised several times and we don't put our cruise tags on our luggage until we pick up our luggage from the baggage carrosoul(sp) !! Thus we know it arrived with us at the airport. Then we put the cruise tags on our luggage and head for a taxi and go to the cruise dock. At the cruise dock the cab will pull right up to the porters who will take your luggage and put it(throw it in a big luggage carrier ) and you will not see your luggage again until it gets to your roon. Which might be 2-3 hours later. SO keep your cruise tags handy so you can get them easily after you arrive at your destination airport !! Be sure to have extra clothes in your carry on for swimmimg or for whatever you might need a change of clothes. My wife likes to wear pants while on the plane(she gets chilly) then when we get on the ship she changes into the warm weather clothes. Hope this info helps, Take care, Frank
