We are here in the New Year and wondered if anyone has any info on what to see that is close to the ship, and the best way to get around. It may be really hot so wanting something that will fill two to four hours.

Do you know which wharf the ship will be using ?

Cruise ships at Port Kelang usually have 2 to choose from.

*The Star Cruises terminal at their World Head Office

*An industrial container wharf.

There is basically nothing around either.

Taxis will be on hand at both , for the approx 1 hour run into KL, and there is also a large shopping Mall about 20 minutes away.

hello kjet,

we were at this port a couple or three years back,we had flown to Singapore then took the mail train (best time ever) to k/l for a week then back to Singapore.

when you get off the ship, there will be (as always) people selling trips, see if you can buy a trip over to 'crab island' it generally includes a hot fresh cooked lunch (if you want to) and a tour of this little fishing island and into a private house etc.it is all built on stilts, and unless you are born their ,you cannot buy or own any land or dwelling.a great 4 hr trip from the terminal.

not sure now of who we booked through but it was great.

have a great cruise

Hey nodandade, thank you for this info. When you say a 4hr trip do you mean all up, or 4hrs there and 4hrs back? Can you remember how much the trip was?

It would also be helpful if you told us if it is the Western or Asian New Year when you are visiting.

Sorry didn't even think about this as we have never traveled outside of Western Australia before...Western New Year. Does this make a difference to what is available BruceMuzz?

hello kjets, sorry for not getting back sooner.my wife and I have just returned from a Thailand holiday (just love that place)

no it was 4 hrs round trip, cannot remember how much it was ,but I know it was as cheap as chips. there are a couple of ways to get there, orginise with a t.a to book this trip for you or just go to where the boats/ ferries are waiting and get one to crab island. it takes about 30 minutes each way, so allow plenty of time to look around (walking) and if you like chilli crab (this is the best you'll get on the planet here). taxis to and from the ship are cheap as is the boat/ ferry ride / crab lunch.

just one last thing,it may pay to tell the taxi driver that you want to go to the wharf where the ferry takes you to palau ketam (this means 'crab island")

and also when you are buying the tickets.

no this is the last thing,no matter when you go 'it will be hot' in Malaysia,so take an aircond boat to the island, otherwise you will melt

have a great time

Crab island, Pulau Ketam. Take taxi from cruise terminal to ferry terminal in Port Klang, local ferry to Crab island. Excellent seafood. Houses over water on stilts. Easy one day trip with ample time to spare.
