Staying in Titusville for Port Canaveral

Whereto?

We are booked at the Fairfield Inn in Titusville the night before our cruise from Port Canaveral on the Carnival Liberty. Has anyone else stayed there before their cruise that could answer a few questions? How was your experience? Was hotel nice/clean? Is it close enough to Cocoa Beach to go site-seeing/shopping/eat? I was told by the desk clerk that we will receive a 40% discount coupon for parking at the port which is one of the reasons we chose to stay here. Plus the great rate! Any opinions/information? How is the drive to the port on cruise morning? We have FTTF so hoping to get there early and board early! We are used to driving 1 hour to port on day of embarkation (used to sail from Port of Mobile) but it was an easy drive with little traffic. Hoping for the same!

go to www.tripadvisor.com and put in Titusville and you can read the reviews.

You are about 20 min from the port (I think) so not sure if you want to drive that far just for dinner in Cocoa Beach.

The drive is straight down I-95 to the Cape Canaveral exit.....very easy!

Whereto

Have eaten at a couple of restaurants that over look the harbor/ cruise port .

Fishlips, Grills, and Rusty's are all within a 1/2 mile of each other. If you go to Cocoa Beach there is a bar/restaurant that sit on the beach called Coconuts. It's been a few years but the good was pretty good.

Hope that helps!

with a room in Titus ... kind of silly to drive to the port for dinner and drive back ... 20+ miles each way

(I would have stayed at the port . . .)

BUT ... you could find some local beach .... (mostly on the river)

or drive around the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge (google it) or any of the many "space" relate attractions ..... (KSC plus leeches)

for dinner ..... your "big one" in Titus is

http://dixiecrossroads.com/

Hey ... Emeril visited!!!!

"Dixie Crossroads has been serving great tasting seafood, char-grilled steaks, prime rib, chicken, fresh salads and their famous corn fritters for over twenty-eight years. The menu features the very best local shrimp and fish from Port Canaveral, Florida and ranges from low cost sandwiches and baskets to high end seafood combos."

If you decide to dinner in the port, then I agree, the trifecta is your best bet ... of the three I prefer Grills (vs Rustys and Fishlips)

Your drive from Titus' to the port should be a piece of cake. Mobile is NYC sized as compared to what you'll see 'tween Titus' and the port.....

I did check trip advisor and Reviews were really good for what we need -- just a clean place to sleep before the cruise with easy morning commute to port. Breakfast and parking discount were added +'s but still would like to hear reviews if any fellow cruisers had stayed there. Thanks for the reply and confirming the drive.

We actually have a Stay and Park package booked at the Country Inn and Suites close to the port that I plan on cancelling when I book the Fairfield Inn. My husband prefers to park at port instead of shuttles and for the difference in room rates doesnt make sense to me to stay in Cocoa Beach instead stopping on inbound trip at Titusville. We live on Gulf Coast so staying on beach isnt as much a priority with us. But if we get in to Titusville early enough I am sure we will ride and look at port and Cocoa Beach. As long as drive is easy and not "big city bumper to bumper traffic" a 20 mile commute for sight seeing is shorter than my drive one way to work each day. But still gonna keep an eye out for a rate drop at closer hotel.;)

Thanks for the replies and info.

We stay at the Hampton Inn, next door to the Fairfield. There is a Cracker Barrel right there, the hotels are on a frontage road just off the interstate. Our tradition is to get up around 7 and eat the free breakfast at Hampton Inn, then drive 50 to Titusville and visit the SPCA thrift shop when they open at 9am. Then we head down A1A towards the port, with a walk on time as early as we get. On Disney we walk on in bathing suits, t shirts and flip flops, and are in the hot tub in serenity cove by 11am.

We stayed there last October. Very clean and we did get the 40% off rate at the port. About 30 minute drive time to the port.

Thanks for the reply. I feel alot better about the reservation. The "clean" part is what we are looking for. And the 30 minute drive to the port is actually less than half what we usually have to drive to get to our cruises (except when we sailed out of Miami!)

How did the 40% coupon work? I've read that you can't reserve parking at the port when you are using it and that you need other documentation with it to show at the port when parking? Was it a long, complicated process? Did you use FTTF?

Thanks again for your help.

This sounds just like the plan I am hoping to do! I even purchased FTTF so we can get onboard, unpack and start the vacation as soon as possible! And I love going to thrift stores. Have a friend that stayed in Cocoa Beach (no cruise) and said she went to one there and it was great. Hoping to find that one too!!

Thanks for the reply! :)

We recently stayed at the Titusville Holiday Inn . It has a great restaurant & is right next to the Fairfield Inn. Titusville is kind of depressing . Very few restaurants & not much except the Space Center to see .

Thanks for the info. By the time we drive in (9 1/2 hours) we will just be looking for a clean place to sleep! Plus if we get in early enough, we will probably do a "drive-thru" of Cocoa Beach! :D But I know what you mean about it being kind of depressing. Reminds me of the hotels we have here that are on the outskirts of the beach/casino area. Most are new and nice but they can be considered "away from the action".

The hotel will give you a coupon with your hotel stay info on it with their verification signature that you have to present to clerk at the port when paying to park. Cannot prepay. Very fast transaction. We were parked and inside the port building within 5 minutes after paying. We are platinum, so we don't have to buy the fttf.
