Room service questions

Another time we ordered for a snack and it arrived timely, there was a knock at the door and by the time it took me to open it, he was already scurrying off down the hall! Where I would normally tip at least a couple of dollars, their behavior made me think maybe it wasn't customary. It left us a bit confused and a little uncomfortable with ordering room service?

 

Now that I hear it is customary, it makes me wonder if they were just so busy that they couldn't wait the second it takes.

I don't care whether room service is included for the folks that deliver room service.

 

It's just not relevant. I'm paying for the luxury of having a staff member cater to my whim (laziness....but I'm on vacation so I can be lazy) and literally deliver food to our cabin.

 

Funny, I would be slightly uncomfortable opening the door for room service and NOT showing my gratitude for the service (sorry....we've never seen a face of surprise when giving staff tip).

 

But if the whole tip giving for room service, there is a super easy fix. Don't get room service! There are thousands of guests that have never asked for room service (which is why they most likely are excluded from the pool).

We are Brits and always tip a dollar for room service coffee, a bit more for a snack as well. Staff are always pleasant and as we are usually in our jimmy's saves having to get dressed and go out and get it. We take a stack of one dollar bills and leave them handy. You can always change larger bills at the casino.

Can you also order room service breakfast in the am via calling or tv system? Is there a cut off time?

 

Just be aware that if you call or use the TV to order coffee or anything else during the very busy room service breakfast hours, it can easily be a 45 min delay. So using the room service bkfst/coffee pre-order the night before insures that you get your AM coffee when you want it, and it's a great wake-up call.

Very true. We used the door hanger and requested a 7:00-7:30 a.m. delivery. They always showed up at seven or very shortly thereafter. When DH ordered room service lunch on the phone, it always took the full 45 minutes.

 

My favorite part of a cruise is sitting on the balcony in the early morning reading and sipping coffee. Or sitting there and sipping coffee and chatting with my DGS as he has his OJ. Oddly enough, it's one of the things he always mentioned too, even though he was only 2 the first time we did it. Such a nice way to start the day.

My friend and I cruise together and his favorite thing to do is call room service as soon as we're in the room & set up a standing order for coffee & pastries every morning around 6 or 7. Then we go to the WJ or the MDR also...no wonder I gain weight on a cruise...:D

You can request ice from your room steward. There is a fridge in the room don't expect much. It is a cooler only. It will be filled with mini bar items that your steward cannot remove, it must be done by bar staff. I find it easier to remove the items myself and put them on an unused shelf for the week.

 

A friend if mine asks the staff to remove all the items from the fridge for the entire cruise. Gives room for other things. My hubby always used two drink tickets for two cans of Coca Cola and took them back to the cabin.
