Ripple app

I think apps like this will become the norm. Think of the money they could save on the new ships if they could eliminate running corded phones to thousands of individual staterooms. This is on trend with many company policies of BYOD (bring your own device) programs. The ships could saves thousands of pounds of equipment and maintenance by not having to hard wire every room. It is much easier to run wireless access points. Before long we will all just register our phone for intranet connection and we can do things like check spa appts, shows res, dinner res, etc.

Yeah I agree I think that is the way they are heading with it

I've read the descriptions on their website, this is what I understand:

1. The ship's WiFi must NOT have "wireless client isolation" enabled, and

2. Your devices need to join the ship's WiFi network, but

3. You don't have to pay for their internet package

Bottom line is, even if they open up Intranet services such as spa appointments and dinner reservations, they can still implement device isolation whereby your devices can only communicate with the ship's servers.

The $1 app is worth the gamble, in my opinion, just understand that:

1. You are at the mercy of the ship's IT department, and

2. Your device may drop the WiFi connection or prompt you frequently because it can't get a live Internet feed through the WiFi.

Your #1 sounds about right. I read a response from them to someone complaining that they needed to contact ship and ask them to turn something off. (Like that would work)although they said sometimes it's on but not on purpose? Guess if a million people asked they might listen.
