Sailing on Dawn Princess from Sydney to around New Zealand next year

 

Never been on such a small ship, having only sailed on Azura, Ventura and Arcadia from P&O UK

 

What can people that have sailed on Dawn Princess tell me about this ship

 

Can you have breakfast in the main dining room?

 

Whats the name of the self service restuarant?

 

Does Princess have afternoon tea at 4pm?

 

Does the Dawn Princess have an onboard cinema to watch films? I have 2 sea days either side of the cruise...

 

What is everybodies favourite bar for a nice drink in?

Yes..in the theatre and MUTS

 

What is everybodies favourite bar for a nice drink in?

Definitely up top aft which has 180 degree views (sorry, I've forgotten the name)

The Dawn is an older ship which became part of the Australian Princess fleet in 2008/9.The promenade goes all the way around,there are about 1900 pax (doesn't feel crowded at all) but there's no anytime dining.

You'll enjoy her and hopefully have a pleasant NZ cruise holiday experience.

We have sailed on both Arcadia and Dawn Princess and there really isn't much difference in size. Off the top of my head, I think Dawn is around 77,000 tons and Arcadia around 88,000 so yes, there is a difference but once on board it won't be that noticeable.

I'm not sure what category of cabin you have booked but we found Arcadia's balcony cabins slightly larger (Arcadia has a shower over the bath, and a full settee instead of a lounge chair), but at the end of the day it's not a big deal.

There is no pool with a retractable roof on Dawn Princess but Dawn Princess does have Movies Under The Stars (MUTS) as pointed out by a previous poster.

 

We quite like Magnums' bar for a pre-dinner drink.

I must add we haven't been on Dawn Princess since around late 2011 so the name of the bar may have changed whereas we were on Arcadia for 51 days in early 2013 :)

 

We have always found the staff on Princess ships to be fantastic too.

I'm sure you will have a wonderful cruise on Dawn Princess.

Dawn Princess is my favourite ship. Happy to have sailed on her last year on a World Cruise segment.

 

The Wheelhouse Bar or Magnums is a nice place to have a cocktail. Both on Promenade, Deck 7.

My favorite ship, sailed on her maiden voyage from Fort Lauderdale to Vancouver. Our favorite bar was the Wheelhouse for pre-dinner and post-dinner drinks.

I have an inside cabin on Plaza deck - Its incredibly expensive to travel in an outside or dare I even say balcony cabin as a single traveller...

 

I literally cannot wait to fly to Sydney to take this cruise - I`m so excited to be travelling to Australia and New Zealand = Princess has INCREDIBLE itineraries

 

I dont really remember much about Arcadia as it was in 2009

We enjoyed the Oasis Bar, aft on the Lido Deck (14) for the great views. You will have a wonderful time, New Zealand is beautiful, especially The Bay of Islands.

Hi,

 

I travelled for half world cruise on Plaza deck in outside cabin. Really good access to dining rooms and all that is happening in Atrium. We enjoyed the location.

 

Hope you enjoy your New Zealand cruise, you will see some amazing scenery in Milford Sound.
