Is there more than one train station in Monaco? Want to make sure we are getting off at the station closest to Port Herculewhen we travel from Nice.

There is still only one train station in Monaco (in Monte Carlo).

Here is some info on the construction of the East-West line of the Nice tramway. This is the brochure in English:

There is a constant update on the works, but it is only in French:

Look at the pictures to get an idea of the extent of the works.

This is the update for the Airport-St Augustin section:

Before you go, it would be best to check with your hotel for the current condition of the roads in the neighborhood. They do say that they will try to minimize the impact on pedestrian crossings, but other public transport and roads will have detours. We certainly had to drive through a few detours this past May! The Promenade des Anglais itself was not affected, but many turns inland were, especially around the Blvd. Gambetta. The construction is centered on the Ave. de la Californie and Rue de France (same road, changes name) which is parallel to the Promenade, so any turns inland have to cross this road. The old Nice area is not affected because the tram construction goes a few blocks further inland in that area. However, the last teminal station will be right at the port, and it will be accessed by a tunnel. There could be road closures that could affect access to the corniches. The authorities say no, but... By the way, local residents are extremely concerned about digging a tunnel underneath the oldest section and buildings of the town.

Estimated time to finish the whole project is 2018.

Wow Marazul, thank you so much for all the information! I really appreciate it.

We are flying out tomorrow, and really looking forward to our arrival in Nice on Friday! So far the weather looks decent for our couple days pre-cruise, which is great for walking and exploring!

Arrived in Nice late last night. Unfortunately our bags did not make it, but were delivered this evening. A reminder to arrive at least a day early when taking a cruise! We also packed a change of clothes in our carry-on.

We had a fabulous day today! The weather was perfect, and we had a wonderful walk from our airport hotel down the seaside promenade into old town and downtown! We sampled croissants, had our first cappuccino of the trip, and people watched! This evening we did a dry run over to the train station near the hotel to prepare for our trip to Monaco tomorrow. After our cruise we look forward to another full day in Nice!

Also, the train station in Nice is kind of far from the area where most people spend most of their time. If you stick with public transportation for your time in Nice, you might check with your hotel desk on what they recommend for getting back and forth into central Nice. My gut feel is you might be better with the bus, particularly hearing what Marazul said about construction.

Having just been to Nice and needed to travel from the airport to a hotel in town, and then the following day to the train station, I would recommend using Uber.

The hotel reception was astonished that I was only charged €16 from the airport, and then €6 to the station the following day, and in both cases being taken in a brand new C class Mercedes.

The best place to pick up an Uber at the airport is from the "Kiss & Fly" zone, and you can use the free wifi in the terminal to book it if you don't want to use roaming data.

If you have never used Uber, then the code uber10creditfree will give you €10 off the first trip.
