Visas for Oman and Dubai

Could someone who has done one of the 'Spice Route' cruises please tell me what the arrangements are for visas in Oman and Dubai.

 

I know that if you visit Dubai by air you get a visa on arrival. Does this apply to cruise passengers? We will be staying for an extra day in Dubai so want to get it right!

I can't answer for Oman, but for Dubai it was very straightforward. We were issued with a card by the ship which we had to have with us when we left to go ashore. If you don't have it with you then you'll have to go back to the ship as one person on our coach found out to his embarrassment (the whole coach had to go back to drop him off as they wouldn't let him walk). Note I am from the UK and this was the arrangement for our country. I think it is the same for Australia, but some countries require a formal visa for Dubai.
