sabrefan Posted August 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 24, 2014 Has anyone who has been to Melbourne gone on this Penguin Parade Tour? If yes I would interested in hearing your thoughts regrading this tour.
Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted August 24, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 24, 2014 I did the Penguin Parade many, many years ago as a tour from Melbourne and really enjoyed it, although it was a very long trip and got back to Melbourne very late at night. I also went there a few years ago, when staying on Philip Island and thought it was even better as the facilities had improved. It's fascinating to see the penguins come ashore and head for their burrows, sometimes up quite steep slopes that I would have trouble climbing up and I've got feet not flippers ;)
kuldalai Posted August 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 24, 2014 I you are on a cruise calling in Melbourne it normally is one day only arrive 0800 depart 1800 . The penguin parade and penguins are only viewed at Phillip island at sunset when the penguins come out of the sea . Tours depart around 1600 from Melbourne and get back between 2200 and 2300 . So you cannot do it on a normal cruise boat one day call. If the cruise boat stops over in Melbourne then yes, or if you have free days in Melbourne ouside of a cruise call yes . Darcy15 Posted August 24, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 24, 2014 (edited) I've done this :) Absolutely fascinating to watch all the penguins come in from the sea and scurry to their burrows :D One tip though - take a blanket - once the sun goes down it gets mighty chilly  Late night back into Melbourne, but well worth it :) Edited August 24, 2014 by Darcy15
Dorset Cruiser Posted November 5, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 5, 2014 We did our own trip from Melbourne. Its quite a long drive and it was a bit chilly down on the shore but it was so worth it. We also stopped off at St Kilda which we enjoyed very much especially the amazing cakes 😄 Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Hailzmick Posted November 8, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 8, 2014 It's AMAZING if you're in Melbourne overnight! We did it in June this year & they had a record number of penguins, (over 1,700!) They're so very cute & come about 1m from you! Very cool! It's expensive- but worth while as the money goes back in to conservation.
MrYellowDuck Posted November 15, 2014 #8 Share Posted November 15, 2014 This is definitely worth doing but it is a long drive. We had a rental car and had no trouble doing this trip like that; there are wildlife places you can stop on the way to break the trip up.
aleminggkk Posted November 17, 2014 #9 Share Posted November 17, 2014 Bring a warm jacket, it can be windy and cold at night. P.s. I am a Queenslander
