Valor sail dates have disappeared

Haven't received an email yet but my booking for Valor has been changed to Liberty. Same room. 7439. But I really didn't want American table/feast menus, which is on Liberty. Oh well! They might change that too by Sept 2015! Was hoping for a Valor drydock upgrade.

Mine was chaged from Valor to Liberty as well and I am in the same room 7439 and the one reason I booked so far in advance. I love that room had a similar room on Conquest and it's really nice. Only thing missing is the couch.

Well I just checked my insurance and it turns out we cannot get our money back for our airfare because Carnival deciding to change this around is not a covered expense and we are just out the money. If they went out of business, or weather caused them to cancel or if mechanical problems caused them to cancel it would be covered. But not in this cause. Don't you just love insurance companies? We are being changed from a 7 day cruise to a 5 day cruise and we have no coverage. Really great. Thanks a lot Carnival!

Sharon

Not sure if this is similar but when our Splendor cruise was cancelled, Carnival gave us and OBC up to $300 per person for change fees associated with airfare changes. We just had to send in emails/invoices showing the airfare change fees.

As with most corporations, the front line/customer facing workers are always the last to know. The information trickles down slowly and inefficiently. When I was in customer service, we often learned about these type of things FROM a customer calling in!!!

According to my PVP, Carnival used to inform their employees well in advance about big changes, but they had way too many people spilling the beans before the official release date, causing too many PR issues. Now they are not told a thing and they usually find out when the general public finds out. Remember a few years back when the new loyalty program was leaked before the official announcement? That was a PVP who emailed the information to one of her guests, who in turn posted it here on Cruise Critic. The leak costed the PVP her job. My PVP told me he was there when management came in, told her she was fired, and escorted her out of the building.

I am in the same boat (ship) as you but for a different date. Was going to book this week and now hoping no price increase with the change to Liberty. So much for my hours of research on the Valor reading reviews and trip reports! At least the itinerary seems to be staying the same so some of my research is still usable. Off to check out info on the Liberty!

The research on the Valor isn't wasted.... this cruise is so much more about the Islands....very little time on board the ship itself. In fact we are doing this itinerary for the 3rd time (twice on the Victory before they changed places with her and the Valor) We get to sail on the Valor in Jan of 2015 but as I see it the only difference is you now the Funship 2.0 upgrades and that awesome itinerary. Win Win IMHO. Enjoy your cruise.

Unless you had a 6k or 6j room. Then you are losing that experience...

Eek! I'm assuming that there was some type of warning not to share the information outside the company and that this person ignored that.

There certainly is head scratching material as to why they seem to shoot from the hip with these types of things. I would love to be a fly on the wall in the meeting room where these types of decisions are made.

I don't know what you're talking about. It was clearly conveyed that the previous poster couldn't see his Valor sailing because of a computer related issue. It was not Carnival changing ships. That happened after.

Well as it turns out we aren't being changed from a 7 day to a 5 day. We have been cancelled by Carnival. Our reservation has disappeared from my account.

They will be refunding all money paid to them. They say they will help us with our options for booking another cruise. They will protect our rate for a comparable 7 day sailing (in similar accommodations) and give us $50 OBC pp. At this point they will not cover the charges for airfare changes. I was told to check back in a week or so and see if that has changed.

I have decided to book with Celebrity on the Summit since it works with our flight dates. It will cost about $260 more but that is still less than the change fee on the airfare. Things could change again but I wanted a back up in case. There is no charge if I cancel Celebrity so I figured why not go ahead and book and see what Carnival offers later.

We were on the 22nd sailing also. Ive been on hold for over an hour with them but may book RCI instead. Stay tuned! Might check out Celebrity Summit also.

I just took a look at RCL for our July sailing out of San Juan and the fares are a LOT higher, plus the ship doesn't get very good reviews. Bummer.

Just posted by John Heald:

Carnival Liberty to San Juan; Carnival Valor to Port Canaveral

Beginning in March 2015, the Carnival Liberty and Carnival Valor will swap homeports with the Carnival Liberty shifting to San Juan to operate year-round seven-day Caribbean cruises, a program currently operated by Carnival Valor. At the same time, Carnival Valor will shift to Port Canaveral to take over Carnival Liberty’s program of five to eight-day year-round Caribbean cruises.

Carnival Liberty’s San Juan-based schedule kicks off March 29, 2015, with an itinerary featuring day-long visits to six tropical destinations: St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, and St. Maarten, each featuring gorgeous beaches, a distinctive island ambiance and a variety of water sports.

Carnival Valor will launch a five- to eight-day schedule from Port Canaveral March 27, 2015. Five-day cruises call at Nassau, Freeport and the private Bahamian island of Half Moon Cay or Key West, while seven-day Caribbean voyages visit Cozumel, Belize, Mahogany Bay (Isla Roatan) and Costa Maya or St. Thomas, San Juan, Grand Turk and Nassau. Two different eight-day itineraries will be offered – one featuring Grand Turk, St. Thomas, St. Maarten and San Juan, and another calling at Aruba, Curacao or Bonaire, and Grand Turk.

Carnival Valor and Carnival Liberty will also operate two special voyages in March 2015 in preparation for their new homeport deployments. Carnival Liberty will offer a four-port, seven-day voyage from Port Canaveral to San Juan March 22-29, 2015, calling at St. Thomas, St. Kitts, St. Maarten and Tortola. Carnival Valor will offer a one-time five-day voyage departing San Juan March 22 and arriving in Port Canaveral March 27, 2015, featuring visits to St. Maarten and St. Thomas.

“We periodically move ships around to keep the product fresh in different markets and both Carnival Liberty and Carnival Valor offer a wide variety of fantastic features and an enticing array of itineraries for our guests to enjoy,” said Gerry Cahill, president and CEO of Carnival Cruise Lines.

Seems like a waste of an upgraded ship to have it on such a port intensive itinerary. I wont be able to really experience the upgrades as ill be on land! I mean from what ive read guys burgers has limited lunch time hours, when ill be off the ship!

The only saving grace for me right now is that RCL is having a 3rd/4th person free in the same cabin sale right now, so the price is almost the same. We put a 24 hour courtesy hold on it.

I've been on hold with Carnival for 1 hour 45 minutes and counting. I go home in 10 minutes--hopefully they get it together before then. Really disgusted that they won't work with me. This may end up being our last Carnival cruise, considering we were affected by the Ketchikan cancellation due to propulsion problems they knew about months in advance on our 7/29 Carnival cruise.

Had 9201 on the Valor, a 6K scenic oceanview. We just assigned 9261, an 8D balcony on the lido deck. I really wanted the scenic oceanview. BUT I'm really happy to be upgraded to the balcony at no additional cost. I get to stay on the lido deck as I wanted and pay the cheaper oceanview price. Given the situation, it's the best outcome for us (except if Carnival hadn't changed it). And I get to try a new ship with 2.0 upgrades. I wouldn't book a ship based on them, but happy to try them in this scenario.

Guys Burgers is open from 12-6. It is the burrito place that is open for breakfast and then noon-2:30. (At least on the Freedom).

Glad I'm not the only one having problems! I tried to check rates on fare viewer for our cruise in April 2015 on the Valor and it said no information availible for this date. Kind of freaked me out for a minute! LOL This is our 30th anniversary cruise and we have 4 cabins booked. I hope it is just a glitch in the web site and not something else.

I guess we gained the Liberty for both of our 30th Anniversaries. We sail Valor ahem...Liberty in June for our 30th. Liberty so far has been my favorite ship and it has Guy's Burgers! Now if Carnival would just update that my cabin is resassigned and I have to fix the MDR option.

After more than 2 hours on the phone with them, Carnival could not reach an resolution with me re my airfare, and re-booking another cruise. They kept trying to sell me on the Magic and another ship for another western Caribbean. No thanks, we just did that. I wanted Conquest, but that is an 8 day and they would not honor the price protection since the other cruise was a 7 day. Even though I had 25% on final payment from my cancelled port in Ketchikan debacle. Oh, and the airfare to Ft. Lauderdale is now $700 per person round trip. No thanks!

San Juan and Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas here I come!

This has left a very bad taste in my mouth regarding Carnival.

DH talked to carnival on the phone this evening and they want to downgrade us to a deluxe family ocean view on the liberty which I believe is something like a 6d from our 6k grand scenic ocean view on the Valor. No thank you. Still don't know what we are going to do. Also the rep said Valor itineraries would be out tomorrow.

My 6J was "upgraded" to an 8D, and I know others with 6K's that were upgraded to 8Ds.

If that's something that interests you I would insist on getting the balcony.
