Rare CruisinCrow Posted September 10, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2014 January weather in the Bahamas is really variable. It could be beautiful, sunny and hot or it could be chilly and windy. It depends on if there is a cold front going through. We've been to the Bahamas a couple of times in January and so far we've been lucky and gotten sunny weather. But the water is definitely too cold for swimming! :)
OCruisers Posted September 10, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 10, 2014 The water is always too cold for us in January even on sunny days. :( LuLu
runner15km Posted September 10, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 10, 2014 If you enjoy pools and swimming in the Atlantic Ocean I would not sail to the Bahamas in January.
blueshine Posted September 11, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 11, 2014 We went swimming in December and February, but then we are from New England, so the water is always warmer in the Bahamas year round for us.
sjb.illinois Posted September 11, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 11, 2014 We were in Nassau in December 2012, and wr had no issues swimming in the ocean. Mind you, we live snow and ice in Ohio, so our standards were pretty low :), but I didnt hear any grumbling from the kiddos. We will be going again this December and fully plan to swim in the ocean again. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Forums mobile app
soaringfalcon Posted September 11, 2014 #7 Share Posted September 11, 2014 I see you're from Jacksonville - I think you'll find it too cold. We went in the water in January but we're from Ohio and the 73 degrees felt absolutely balmy compared to the 10 degrees at home.
4merlurker Posted September 13, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 13, 2014 Was there this past January - It was freezing BUT it was freezing everywhere that week ...Polar Vortex. ( it was 55 the day we stopped in Florida!) We went to Atlantis and all the lifeguards and staff had long pants, jackets and hats on. We still went in the pools though.....they thought we were nutz!
