Hello all,

Just found this trip report and it has me thinking about taking this Pacific adventure too. If it's not too much trouble, would someone be able to forward me the discounter address as well?

Many thanks and looking forward to the next installment.

Todd

The drive back down the mountain was very easy. The roads are fantastic here. Brilliant surface. Hot mix but made with crush volcanic rock. Really smooth. And nice and wide, and well marker. Don’t hesitate to hire a car here.

Lunch was at a little diner type place were we had Apple Pie.

We returned the car to the airport. Very happy with Dollar.

I booked all my cars in Hawaii through Discount Hawaiian car rental dot com. You put in the details and it finds the best deal. In Hilo all the renters are together in a long thin shed and swap cars around anyway. It worked really well.

We checked in with Paradise Helicopters for our flight. Yahhh. Squeal with delight etc. Paradise are a locally owned and operated company and were great to deal with. We did the Volcanoes and Waterfalls tour. It was a 55 minute flight and was $234 each including a guaranteed window seat. We flew in the Bell Helicopter, which has better seats and WITH THE DOORS ON. We flew out over agricultural land including the Hershey’s Macadamia plantation and saw really nice heavy natural woodlands.

Then we saw the first of the lava. It is the flow that is slowly creeping towards the settlement of Pahoa.

People living there have been given between 3 weeks to 3 months to get out with everything they want to keep. Scientist don’t know how long it will take as much of it is running underground.

Pretty terrifying when you see this river of fire slowly moving towards the town.

Then we saw the ‘skylight’.

This is where a chunk of the top layer of old lave has collapsed, exposing the huge river of molten lave rush down.

I don’t know how big it is but the distance form the old lave to the red lava is over 150 metres / 400 ft, so I suppose the hole is HUGE. And the size of the lava field is hard to comprehend.

Fantastic to see your Dad having a great time! That really is heart warming. I said to hubby we will hopefully go on the same ship as you one day. :)

We talked to a customer the other day who said cruising is just boring. A friend told him so. He goes travelling in a camper trailer with his wife. I told him that sounded boring! What do you do all day? Seriously! I don't normally rubbish other people's life choices, but he was so determined that his friend was right. :D

Love hearing about your concierge lounge activities. We love the diamond lounge, and will hopefully make D+ after our Feb 2016 cruises. Have done CL once after a very snazzy upgrade on Voyager, but the CL was in the middle of the ship. Much would prefer the beautiful view from the Radiance CL (have put our nose to the door). The DL is a great place to hang during the day. Can't ever get bored sitting watching the ocean go by in my opinion!

Could we get the discount email too please? Thanks in advance :) goodycruising at gmail dot com

Since some people are not getting the Discount Airfare link, why don't you email me if you want it and I will copy and paste the link in a reply to you. I will only be able to do this until next Friday as I am going on a cruise too.. Wahoo!! :D

Hi Raina

Thank you for doing this live review, it is awesome. We are planning on doing this cruise next year.

If you do private excursions in Bora Bora, Moorea and Papeete would you mind sharing the costs of these? Also is it possible to debark the ship at each of the ports and head to a beach and go snorkelling and arrange tours at the wharf/once on shore? TIA
