atdahop Posted September 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 12, 2014 Has anyone done this tour? Is it far from the cruise ship terminal? How much walking up and down stairs on the ship? Thank you
CruiserBruce Posted September 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 12, 2014 I wouldn't book a cruise line tour- you can do it much cheaper on your own. From your cruise ship to the Midway is at most 2 blocks. Depending on which tour you take, it can be a lot of stairs. Not many elevators available. But VERY interesting. Rosefloater Posted September 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 12, 2014 It is a 5 minute walk from the ship. If you belong to Costco, then you can get 2 tickets for $27.99. Here is the link. Or you can book online at www.midway.org and save $2. I have gone twice and got tickets each of these ways. If you decide to take the tour of the island, then there are 4 sets of steep stairs. The tour is free, but there could be up to a 30 minute wait as only about 20 people go at a time with a guide. I did the island tour 1st before there were a lot of people. It gets more crowded later in the day. IIRC you go down about 3 decks, not all connected. If you can't do a lot of stairs, you don't need to go down to the bottom deck. There is a lot of interesting items on the flight deck and inside.

I am recovering from a hip replacement and can do some stairs but need to be careful. We were planning to do it on our own, not a ships tour. SadieN Posted September 12, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 12, 2014 The stairs up to the Island are more like ladders.
