But can you not bring your own?

yeah, I cruise carnival and I bring a flat, soft sided cooler in my bag all the time or I put my meds in one and put it in my suit case.

There is a fact page on carnival and ( I believe) they just don't want large coolers.

ETA:

Found it:

Prohibited Items – will be disposed of prior to boarding

• Large coolers

(Small, personal-sized coolers no larger than 12” x 12” x 12” for the purpose of housing small quantities of non-alcoholic beverages and/or medications are permitted as carry-on luggage.)

Is this $5 match deal on all Carnival ships? Will be on the Triumph next month and would like to take advantage of this. sounds like a great deal. Also... can anyone tell me the most expensive drink/shot they have had on the Triumph or ship with the same features. Most importantly, without specialty dining. I have heard the drinks can get pretty pricy in the Steakhouse and other "for fee dining".

Im just trying to get the best bang out of my buck. I have also heard that the rum bar has some pretty pricy shots. Around $20-25.. Does anyone know of this?

My tips and to clear up somethings:

-Most bartenders(not all) will not open the drink if you ask to leave unopened. As others have stated, we have used this as the end of the night to gather 4-5 unused drinks and take back to the cabin. We have taken these off at most ports and drank on the beach there. I suggest a small cooler.

-If you think you are getting close to your 15 mark, be sure to ask! Some bartenders/servers will give you the heads up when you are close, but not all of them, so you have to ask. They will tell you when you ask. Caught my wife and I by surprise one night as we had always been told when we were getting and then we were shut down at 11pm and could not buy any.

-Once you get to 12/13 and you know you are going to keep partying, start buying buckets. You have to say you are buying it for the group or for friends and they will take 1 of the drinks out of your pool of 15, but atleast you have a bucket full.

-We tip $1 per drink. I know gratuity is included in the package, but it goes into a pool and then split up. This allows our server to know that we appreciate them. This also leads to better service. On the above tip, if you have a bartender/server who you have treated nice and tipped, they will not even ask if you are buying the bucket for someone and just charge you, sometimes without taking a drink off! It really goes a long way.

-In my experience, you can take somebody elses card up to the bar to use it, if 1 of these 2 things are true. That person is within eye sight of the server or if you have tipped/became acquainted with the server and they are familiar/like you. I cant stress enough that by tipping a little extra and being nice to the servers goes a loooooong way.

Buy the pre-cruise cooler with beer, cups, koozies, and a bottle opener and find a bartender who is willing to hold yoru card for 25 mintues and fill your cooler with 5 unopened beers!!

I'm a newbie. I don't see that option in the Fun Shops. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Great suggestions, especially regarding Mike's and beer. Has anyone used one of those stainless steel water bottles, ordered drinks prior to getting off the ship, when in port, so that you could have your own drink at the beach?

Asking for a friend . . . :D

If you get a classic cocktail you can take your receipt to the casino and get a $5 match play. In a day that's a lot of free money they are giving back to you. You do have to make a $5 bet with the match play . Good at any table game.

Sorry if this was answered already...is there a limit to these per day? .... nvm lol

Has anyone recently ordered bottles of been (unopened) successfully? Also has anyone taken coolers of beer to Amber Cove or Grand Turk recently?

I haven't done it for those ports specifically but I usually take a couple of honest teas (included with cheers from the coffee bar) and a little flask of bourbon on the beach with me. I have travel mates that do the unopened beer thing.
