when should I apply for a carnival mastercard?

I've seen these advertised around the ship but never gave it much thought. Is there any perk to signing up onboard? I won't have much of an S&S account this time because I've been buying the Verizon ecards. Cruise is in a week and a half so too late to get it and use toward more ecards.

You can apply for the CCL C/C on the CCL website.

You get enough points for $100 OBC for next cruise

Don't sign up for any affinity card until you check the terms and conditions. How much spending does it take to earn $100 OBC? How much interest do you pay on any balance? Grace periods for payments? Minimum %? Max credit line? Also, don't sign up if you don't need another card or more debt.

one purchase of anything gets the OBC

You can throw it in the trash after the cruise!!

But you score the $100 OBC

I don't know if they still do, but they used to give applicants a Carnival logo gift (tote bag at one point, cooler bag at another time, etc.) for applying while onboard a cruise. When I first saw this, I was slightly bummed because I had signed up for the card while on land and never got a free gift.:o

Also, if you sign up while onboard, they'll transfer your S&S account for the current cruise to your new Carnival MC so you can get your double FunPoints for that balance.

BTW, saving up your points and redeeming them for a statement credit is a much better way to go than cashing them in for OBC.;)
