We will be spending three nights in February, precruise, in the Ft Lauderdale area. We sent away to the Chamber of Commerce in Lauderdale by the Sea, for info. on the area. We have received a lot of information on mom and pop type hotels, motels, resorts, and resort apartments. These are located in the N Ocean, N Atlantic, and ElMar areas, some on the beach, others just off. They all belong to the chamber, and many are AAA rated. (But we know this doesn't mean much--Best Western Marina rated as 3 Diamond.) They include the following: Croton Arms Resort; Seville Hotel; Ireland's Inn; Paradise by the sea Resort; Seascape Resort Motel; Captain's Quarters Resort; Sea Cliff Resort; and the Tropi Rock that 'Alicia68' asked about in an earlier post. Some have weekly rates, but many also have daily rates. Finally to the question, have you heard of any of these, and/or are there other good ones in that area? There is also a listing at http://www.sunny.org/listings/index.cfm?action=showSub&catID=2&subcatID=4

Thank you for any help you can give. Also TrentS, thanks for the Ocean Weather site from another post.

I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with what any of those are like inside. I've only seen a few of them by driving past, but as you say they're all older mom & pop motels, and those are only as good as the owners.

I suppose the best thing to do would be to check and see what the general trend is on... http://www.tripadvisor.com/

Ireland Inn is a block away from Pelican Beach. I love their new tower, it's gorgeous... http://www.pelicanbeach.com/

Skip Laudedale by the Sea and check out Hollywood Beach. We've always enjoyed vacationing Hollywood Beach, its very safe, clean and family orientated. No crowds, just wide open beach.

Check out Sea Downs http://www.seadowns.com/, its a mom and pop hotel. Its clean, safe, in a great area. You can practically step out of your room onto the beach.

Hollywood Beach is minutes away from the airport and even closer to Port Everglades. http://visithollywood.org/

Thanks again for your help. Bequia, I checked with Sea Downs, but they are only taking reservations for two or three week stays in February. If they are getting reservations for those lengths of time, it must be a good place to stay. Still trying priceline too. But, spoke to our nephew, who works for Marriott corporate in Florida. He says they don't even release inventory to Priceline until 30 days out. Also, not much inventory to release, and it costs more than in the past.

February is high season they get a lot of tourists from Europe staying for weeks at a time. Sorry you weren't able to slip in.

I wonder if your nephew can get you the friends and family rate at Marriott or the associates rate.

Your right about the inventory, the hotel business is booming in South Florida with no end in sight.
