travgurl Posted September 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2014 We will have 2 nights in Denali, any recommendations of possible night time excursions to do or places to eat near the Mt. Mckinely Chalet? And we disembark in Vancouver and staying an extra 2 nights, looking for an affordable hotel in the downtown area so we can explore the city. Any recommendations? Thanks
mapleleaves Posted September 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2014 Your hotel is at the far end of "Glitter Gulch", which is a strip mall of shops and restaurants. There are quite a few restaurants to choose from depending on what you're looking for; from Subway to Great Alaska Fish and Chips to 49th State Brewery. http://www.a1cms.com/_dcc/restaurants/ If you can't walk .... the Salmon Bake has a free shuttle. http://denaliparksalmonbake.com/
rockdoctor Posted September 27, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 27, 2014 Don't know if we can mention names but had great pizza 3 times at a place on the north end, across from the McKinley Chalet.

You just can't talk about travel agents or competitors to expedia/travelocity etc since this is their web site.
Putterdude Posted September 27, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 27, 2014 Vancouver's downtown is quite compact so all of the downtown hotels are pretty much within a mile of Canada Place. However, here is a list of many 3*+ hotels that are within 6 to 8 blocks of Canada Place: The Pan Pacific (part of Canada Place) Fairmont Waterfront (across the street from Canada Place) Fairmont Pacific Rim Marriott Pinnacle Renaissance Hyatt Regency The Shangri-la Fairmont Vancouver Hotel Auberge Coast Coal Harbour Delta Suites The Metropolitan Four Seasons Rosewood Georgia Sutton Place (about 8.5 blocks) Sheraton at the Wall Centre (about 10 blocks) le Soleil The Wedgewood Very few of these hotels can be had for much under $200 per night unless picked up on Hotwire or Priceline. A few hotels that are not on the list but I am comfortable recommending would include: Best Western-Downtown on Drake Blue Horizon on Robson (a favourite of cruisers) Rosedale on Robson Hampton Inn and Suite on Robson Georgian Court on Beatty Sandman Inn on W. Georgia. Holliday Inn on Howe St.

Prospectors Pizza? is on that end of the gulch. We eaten there and enjoyed it and they have a good selection of beer.

Thanks Big thumbs up on Prospector's Pizza, and I'd stay away from Great Alaska Fish & Chips. "Night time" is relative. We went on a white water rafting trip with Denali Outdoor Center (also located right in Glitter Gulch) that started at 6PM. We went the last week in August, and it was still light when we returned after 9PM. Had a great time.
SPacificbound Posted September 28, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 28, 2014 I highly recommend Pan Pacific at Canada Place. We spent 4 nights there last month. You could not find a better location. :) http://www.panpacific.com/en/hotels-resorts/canada/vancouver.html
Floridanamaw Posted September 28, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 28, 2014 We just spent 2 days in Vancouver after our cruise ended there last weekend. We stayed at the Blue Horizon. Very reasonable rates at less than 200.00 a night. Large rooms and great location. We went to Capilano Suspension Bridge and it is a must do while there. Also Stanley Park. I wished we would have more time there to explore. So much to see and enjoy. We loved Vancouver. Sent from my iPad using Forums

Thanks When you're at Denali, if you're interested in sled dogs or the Iditarod go to the Husky Homestead presentation. It was fun and very interesting. Our hotel had a shuttle, so yours might also. The one at the park headquarters is free. There is also one run by Mike Santos called DogGoneIt a bit further south than Husky.
