I am tentatively planning oon cruising out of FT.Lauderdale. Is there a main airport there or do I need to fly into somewhere else and get transpo there?

Yes, FLL has an Airport. Some people do fly into Miami, just depends on which offers the best deal. You would have to factor in the cost of getting from Miami to FLL. I see you are in Akron, Airtran flys into FLL.

Yes, there is: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL).

 

Miami International (MIA) is also pretty close by.

The port where all the cruise ships are is apparently only like a 10 min cab ride away. Really convenient.
