sueandphil Posted October 5, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 5, 2014 We are doing Trans- Atlantic N422a picking the ship up at Malaga. We are flying out at 7.40am so expect to be on board by 1.00pm all being well. Just wondering what is nearby at the port area in respect of bars shops etc or will we need to get a taxi or bus. Expect that muster will be about 6.00pm so we will have an hour or two to look around:)
Britboys Posted October 5, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 5, 2014 The port is very close to the City Centre. You may need a shuttle bus from the ship to the port entrance though as some of the berths are a way out. I have not seen it but I understand there is a new up-market shopping centre right beside the main terminal building. Apart from that that, there is a main road that runs almost down to the port called Alameda Principal. At the bottom of that (which is at the port end) is the Calle Marques de Larios. This is a pedestrianised street with loads of shops & cafes. There are also lots of little side-streets off of this but be careful - it is easy to get lost as many of them twist & turn! You will not need a taxi as it is only a 5 to 10 minute walk at most. Check it out on something like google maps. It is a lovely, authentic Spanish City. RVRoadie Posted October 5, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 5, 2014 (edited) If there are two or more of you, skip the shuttle and take a taxi right from the cruise terminal to exactly where you want to go. 10 Euro to the train station. jaceyar Posted October 5, 2014 #5 Share Posted October 5, 2014 If you want to go further afield, the Cercanias train runs between Malaga and Fuengirola. The Picasso museum is a big tourist attraction in Malaga. The port area is very nice with lots of bars and restaurants. Wish I was coming on that cruise. Growler5010 Posted October 6, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 6, 2014 The Indoor Market is worth seeing too. Beautiful stained glass window depicting fishermen & wonderful food stalls. It's a 10 minute walk from the port entrance.

Thanks everyone, lots of food for thought here. with only around 3 hours to spare think it may be just a walkabout and if we like what we see a long weekend in the future might be worth trying:)
DYKWIA Posted October 18, 2014 #12 Share Posted October 18, 2014 Good Picasso museum in Malaga. We found Malaga a pleasant compact city and more enjoyable than our next stop Lisbon. We found Malaga one of the best places to pick up "duty paid" cigarettes - good selection of UK brands about half the price of the UK. We also found that the Duty Free shop at Malaga Port was more than happy to sell us Duty free - despite us being from the UK.
bee-ess Posted October 19, 2014 #13 Share Posted October 19, 2014 (edited) Went to Malaga for the first time recently and we were impressed, it is a nice authentic Spanaish town for a stroll around with some good places for lunch, El Pimpi is worth a try and many other tapas bars around. We started with a taxi up to the castle (you would not want to walk up, it is steep) which has great views and then walked down to Alcazaba Palace and from there everything else is on the level. I can email you a walking route I downloaded from the internet if you want. All in all Malaga was a pleasant surprise. thames_side Posted October 19, 2014 #14 Share Posted October 19, 2014 (edited) There is also an excellent Picasso museum in Malaga if you are interested. If you have time the Alkazba is worth a look. It is a bit of a climb up though. (Sorry, I see I am repeating other posts) Edited October 19, 2014 by thames_side
