Power going out on the Liberty?

Hi guys! We are heading out on the Liberty this Saturday and have heard rumors of the power going out occasionally.

Has anyone recently been on it and experienced this? Below is what I read...

From the last Liberty Cruise-

Twice during our cruise - the lights went on in the casino. Just for a couple minutes - but that was very concerning. Also - twice on Lido in the dining area - lights went out. One time it was for about 20-25 minutes. It was right at lunch - you couldn't fill your drink cups, they were out of several of the lunch dishes and said they couldn't bring out more because of the power outage.

Was this post just recent? We were on Liberty this past April and never had any issues. I've also seen some recent reviews and none of them mentioned anything about the power going out. Hopefully someone else can confirm this though for you.

We were on Liberty 9/13-9/21 and the power went off for about 20 or so minutes. I had also read that it happened on the cruise before us and now today read about the new one. I don't know why this is happening, but it is happening.

I sailed on 9/21/2014 and had no power issues. What did happen is 3 or 4 times the toilet in our cabin would not flush. You would push the button and nothing would happen. 10 minutes later when you pushed the button it swoosh down to never never land.

They would be because some passenger in the same area tried to flush something they should not have. Nothing to to with power.

Thanks for the update... Was there ever any panic? Was it ship wide it went out or just in one area?

We were coming from the lobby bar and it went off in several different places on the ship. Our cabin was 8381 and it was no where near the lobby bar and based on what we were told by Guest Services power was lost in many areas of the ship.

I didn't see anyone panic as I think it was still daylight. It wasn't a big deal to me other than the a/c in our cabin. When we went to the casino we heard people talking about how the power went off in there too. I can't say if all went off at the same time or it was staggered. There definitely is a problem somewhere.

Does that ship have the big portable generator aft?

Yes, it does. I was on the Sept 13-21 sailing as well. I did a trip report and posted a pic of the cargo container since I didn't remember it on previous Liberty trips.

I was in the photo area. The lights were out for 30 seconds, then generator lights were on for about 3 minutes; then everything was up. I spoke with someone that works in the photo area, he said it had happened about 3 weeks prior.

I'm not trying dispute what Katie has said; I'm just sharing my experiences. I was with of a group of 11. My group was spread throughout the ship. Someone in the casino said they didn't lose power, but they saw from the Atrium forward it had gone dark.

I had several family members in their rooms. Some were reading and didn't notice a thing. In a near-by room, they noticed the TV froze and also there was a loss in water pressure.

I had a total of 4-5 family members who had no idea what I was talking about when I asked them, "Where were you when the lights went out". LOL

I was in a public area, there was no scene of panic at all.

Cruzin Scotty I wonder if Guest Services was lying to us about the power being off in several areas and why our a/c wasn't cool. They were aware that we had problems on the first night so now I wonder if it was just an excuse and that they didn't want to send someone to our cabin again.

We weren't in the casino at the time as I posted but when we sat down at the machines that were closest to the casino bar, two people were talking about how the power had gone off in there. I personally can't agree or disagree with that.

Maybe the whole thing is just testing the new generators and no one, including John Heald wants to admit to it! Who knows?

I also just got off the Liberty this past Saturday & YES the ship has problems. We were in 9280 (portside) & lost our AC one night for several hrs....lost....meaning it stopped blowing any air. The temp in our room was 76 by their thermometer. Their optimal temp is between 70 & 74. Once it was working again the room temp was 68/69. We also lost water pressure for a short period of time.....no water in sink, unable to flush toilet. The last sea day the power went out in the aft section of the buffet for about an hour....the power to the engines was also down....we were drifting for almost an hour. It's only a matter of time. All of that aside, we had an awesome cruise. I loved the Liberty!!!

It definitely sounds like there are some issues going on.

If I believe the photo gallery guy, and I have no reason not to; this is now 3 separate incidents in 5-6 weeks.

There do seem to be occasional concerns on a specific ship about the A/C. It also seems there have been more complaints recently about the AC on the Liberty.

I love her; I hope they are working on these problems.

We were on the Triumph last January when the ship lost all power including the engines while we were smack dab in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. We ran adrift for a little over an hour. During this time the back up generators were used to power emergency lights and of course, THE REGISTERS! Go figure. lol

well, to put it into perspective... If the ship lost power AND everyone couldn't get a beer, then there REALLY would be a problem

haha I was actually thinking this... As long as we can pee somewhere and still get beer, an hour downtime wouldnt be that terrible. lol

My wife and I were on the same cruise as CruzinScotty. As he stated the lights in the photo area went out for a brief time. Emergency lights illuminated and we walked back to our room on the 7th deck.. After being in the room for a few minutes the lights came on.

I did not pay attention to the A/C, to see its condition.

My DH, my sister, and her husband, were on the 9/26/14 cruise and we experienced the two outages. The first outage my sister and I weren't aware of (can't remember where we were on the ship) but our husbands were in the EA Sports Bar, right next to the casino, and when we met up with them later, they told us the power went out for a short time in that area. The second outage was on the last sea day (Friday). I was in the casino, right in the middle of a Bonus Spin :), when the power went out ! It was out for about 20 minutes or so. Everything went quiet. We looked out the window and could tell we were just drifting. Every now and then we would feel a little vibration like they we trying to restart the engines, and then it would go quiet again. Finally everything came back up and we were back sailing again. BTW, the casino machines came back to where they left off :D. My husband and brother-in-law were in our cabins on the Empress Deck and when I met up with them later, they said the power was out in our cabins too. It was a bit disappointing to us that no announcement was made regarding the situation, either during the outage or after we were back up and running. When the power came on, Cory, the CD, immediately came on over the intercom and we thought he was going to say something about the outage, but instead he announced the upcoming events on board, as if nothing happened. Just our opinion, but we thought something should have been said that was reassuring or informative. Our son and his family went on this same cruise back in July and had no problems. Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed this cruise - weather was great, seas were great, we won a ship on a stick in one of the trivia games, and ate to our heart's content. We are now in the planning stages of a cruise in April '15.

Hi everyone. We reached out to Carnival to find out what happened on this cruise. Here is Carnival's response:

"Regarding the Carnival Liberty, over the course of the past week we experienced an issue with a part on one of the ship's six diesel generators that caused the vessel's automation systems to react in a way that resulted in a short partial loss of power on two occasions. Some shipboard functions were temporarily impacted but In both instances the matter was rapidly rectified and did not affect any of the ship's safety systems or disrupt the voyage in progress. We have taken measures to preclude the issue from happening again. "

Thanks for posting the response from Carnival. We leave at the end of the month and based on this thread, I was starting to worry that at the last minute they were going to cancel my cruise due to "necessary maintenance".

I know that's far fetched:rolleyes: but you wait for a year to go and then 3 weeks before start reading about power issues and....well.....you get nervous :o
