phabric Posted October 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 30, 2014 Has anybody stayed at any of Dover's hotels?
nmg85 Posted October 31, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 31, 2014 We stayed at the premier inn in 2010 which was good for a pre cruise stay and just a short taxi ride to the port
epixx Posted October 31, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2014 Not a hotel, but we LOVED this place: http://www.castle-guesthouse.co.uk/ It's really close to Dover Castle, and we even walked with luggage to the ship, although I think a number of people thought we were daft for doing this. whatnot Posted November 5, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 5, 2014 Have you thought about staying in the lovely quaint city of Canterbury? It is only 20 minutes or so from Dover and the accommodations and restaurants are much better. Easy walking to lots of very interesting sites. We stayed there for 2 nights before our cruise out of Dover and loved it. Stayed at the Abode Hotel which is in the pedestrian area. Used Dover Taxis to take us on a 4 hour tour of the Dover area prior to dropping us off at the cruise terminal. Malchomb was a fabulous driver and guide. nybumpkin Posted November 7, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 7, 2014 We love Canterbury, but DH and I have been there twice. We opted to get a car from London to Dover and stayed at the Norman Guest House, a B&B. It was walking distance to the Castle, the waterfront, and some good restaurants. The morning of the cruise our hosts called a cab for us and we were at the port in 10 minutes.
Molliem Posted November 11, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 11, 2014 In 2012 we stayed at the Best Western Dover Marina Hotel. By waterfront. Would stay there again.
Eurotravelmagazine Posted November 13, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 13, 2014 Ive looked at this before and there isn't unfortunately anywhere great to stay in Dover itself. I chose the Premier Inn and it was fine. I'm a fan of Premier Inns - they offer a good product at a good price (though I've noticed prices creeping up recently) and an excellent buffet breakfast. LondonTowner Posted November 14, 2014 #8 Share Posted November 14, 2014 I have also stayed at the Premier Inn in Dover. Fine just for a night and serves it purpose. Dover isn't the nicest of towns, so if you want to stay somewhere nicer have a look at local B and Bs in the surrounding areas. Places like St Margarets at Cliffe have a nice hotel and some BBs. Deal or Sandwich could be other options. Plenty of places to stay around there. I think Sandwich is particularly attractive. A guide like Sawdays is a good place to start.
