I have been on the Jewel and will be sailing again on Jewel November 2, 2014.

Pros - Theater, Buffet, Spinnaker Lounge, Atrium, Cagneys, golfing cage, friendly officers

Con - horrible pools: family pool is too deep, no stairs into adult pool (only ladders), whirlpools too small and not enough of them

In 2011 and 2012, I enjoyed Blue Lagoon. Now it has been replaced with O' Sheenans (sp?) which has good reviews

Enjoy your cruise!

I have sailed on the Jewel to Alaska twice. And twice on the Pearl, Jewel's sister ship. The most recent being this past summer.

I really can't think of anything I could say that I disliked, but I do think that dh are really laid back and easy to please. We are just so darned happy to go on a cruise, that it would take a lot to displease us in any way.

So, for likes...... Here are what I can think of that we enjoy about the Jewel:

1. The size of the ship suits us real well.

2. The crew was fantastic. We were greeted by all staff each time we encountered them in the hallways.

3. We thought the food in the main dining rooms was very good. But, again, we are super easy to please.

4. The buffet is very good. So many choices.

5. Each evening there is a crepe station near the Great Outdoors Buffet. You can get made-to-order crepes. They are outstanding!

6. We thought the entertainments was so very good. Especially JP the magician.

7. There's a good variety of activities all throughout the day to choose from.

8. The fresh fruit from room service ordering is outstanding.

9. The Great Outdoors at the back of the ship is a wonderful place to sit to eat, visit, and also offers some great views. There is often food set up at the back there, buffet style.

10. The casino is decent size, although I never won much of anything.

11.There is a Bridge viewing room. We went there a few times to watch what was going on there. There's also much to see on the walls. Pictures, historical items etc.

12. You can sit up front of the ship and it's so relaxing and offers wonderful viewing.

13. The adult pool was very warm. Much warmer than I had thought it would be. It was very comfortable to stay in for long periods just floating around and relaxing and watching the people.

14. On the pool deck, on each side, it's covered. There is seating, so even on stormy days you can be outside viewing without getting too much wind or cold or rain.

15. We liked the soft-serve ice cream.

16. We liked the coffee and lemon-aid and flavored waters available at all times at the buffet area.

17. There is a nice library with a good selection of books to check out. It's a very relaxing library. Comfy seating and nice views. It's a pretty busy place.

18. We like the game room. Tables and chairs. Games are available, but they are most all missing game pieces. Bring your own, I would suggest. I had brought backgammon, which we played. It's most always very, very busy there.

19. The atrium has a lot of seating, often with musicians playing music.

20. Our two favorite spots on the ship are the Great OUtdoors, which I mentioned. And also The Spinnaker Lounge. The Lounge is used for entertainers, speakers, night time dancing, etc. It's a wonderful place to relax during the day. Huge windows all along. They have the coolest curved, huge loungers. Dh and I can lay there together comfortably and marvel at the views. And, oh, so comfy. We often see folks that have fallen asleep there. Spinnaker used to have these really cool huge ornate beds along the windows, also. But much of that has been replaced with tables and chairs.

Hmmm......That's about all I can think of.

Someone did mention above that the size of the pools are small. And too few hot tubs. Since my experience was cruises to Alaska, not so many people are using those as would be on some other cruises. The hot tubs, even on our Alaska cruises, were often pretty full.

Lots of good thoughts! We will be on the Jewel leaving Houston on jan 31. The last norweigen cruise ship I was on was the SS norway if that gives you an idea how long it has been. Again thanks to those that responded and to those who may continue to respond :)
