KalenaD Posted August 21, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 21, 2005 when we went on our 2 cruises out of NO we stayed at the hampton inn the first time, it is close to the riverwalk mall and in the convention area, nice, quiet, and served a continental breakfast but, no bar or restraunt on site. the second trip we stayed at the Prince Conti, it is in the french quarter 2 blocks off bourbon street so the noise wasn't bad, it is an older hotel, as most are in french quarter and has a really nice little restraunt for breakfast, a fancy restraunt and martini bar too. We were able to get the best prices from each hotel's website directly., I think the Hampton was around 100$ and by booking on the prince conti's website I got a deal of only 76$ good luck
Nanatravel Posted August 21, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 21, 2005 We stayed at the Hyatt business district right adjacent to the Saints stadium. Won the 2 night stay on Priceline bidding 3* for $50 per night. We even asked for and got the "corner" room, which are fabulous with a view of the ship and bridge. Trolley service takes you to the casino and waterfront free. It is a nice walk to the St. Charles St. trolley, Mothers restaurant for breakfast and even to the FQ for people watching. It was about an $8 taxi ride at night to restaurants. Round trip transfers from the airport and returning from the pier were bought at NOLA for about $28 per person. Worked out great. travelndad13 Posted August 21, 2005 #4 Share Posted August 21, 2005 I've been to New Orleans a few times. I always stay at a bed & breakfast. The last one I stayed at was http://www.lamaisonmarigny.com. It is on the far end of Bourbon Street. Close enough for excitement, but away from noise. cali-croozer Posted August 22, 2005 #5 Share Posted August 22, 2005 We stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites, Convention Center, pre-cruise and the Drury Inn, post cruise. Both were good values and included free breakfast. The Hampton Inn is close to the Riverwalk so it's great for walking that area or taking the streetcar to Jackson Square. The Drury is closer to Bourbon Street if you are interested in that area (about 3-4 blocks away though, so you won't hear any noise). The streetcar stops right outside the hotel. If I had to choose between the two, I would say the Hampton is better for room decor, touring convenience and service. My teens liked the breakfast at the Drury better because it included make your own waffles.
cruiseseeker Posted August 26, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 26, 2005 For a hotel close to the french quarter I would definitely recommend the Sheraton on Canal St. It is a beautiful hotel with many amenities and the beds are wonderful to sleep in.
