Are McKinley flightsee & glacier landings and Juneau icefield helicopter landings uniquely different? Since I may only get to Alaska once, should I splurge for both? Won't be looking for the dogsled....will be visiting Husky Homestead instead to visit the puppies/learn. Thanks!

The helicopter glacier landings at Denali are outside the park. The glacier landings at Sheldon Amphitheater in the park are by fixed wing aircraft. I have also done the Juneau glacier landing and think they are different enough to do both. At Juneau you are on ice but at Denali NP you are on snow. Have a great time!

Thanks! I just hate to have a "wish I had done that" hanging over me. Thinking of skipping the landing part of the McKinley flight and then adding a helicopter glacier landing in Juneau. I am from NH and used to being on snow already!

  • 3 weeks later...

We did the helicopter glacier landing out of Juneau with Era. https://www.eraflightseeing.com/content/index_eng.html

It was an amazing experience - almost other-worldly in some places!

We highly recommend the company (plus they have great reviews elsewhere). We booked directly with them but there were people on our helicopter that had booked through the ship and of course paid way more.

I see they also offer a Denali trip so you might be able to kill two birds.........

Have FUN!!! :D

The flights are very different. I have flown both areas. It also can be of interest to fly in a ski plane which is unique. It may be your only opportunity to view McKinley.

It's a whole different experience doing a helicopter glacier landing.

I never limit myself on flights as those are my preference. Decide what are yours?
