flygirl2 Posted November 5, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 5, 2014 What kind of power strip is permissible to take on the ship? I've messed up in the past and took one that was too strong I guess and I blew a fuse in the cabin and blew out my power strip. I hadn't even thought about it being an issue so I don't want to do that again. What amps is the correct one to take? Thanks
PortSideCruzan Posted November 5, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 5, 2014 Hi Flygirl :) When cruising my wife & I use a Belkin surge protector, (below). Very inexpensive & fits in our camera/camcorder bag. :)
Alec2435 Posted November 5, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 5, 2014 I attempted to take a power strip in my luggage on my last cruise on the Pride and it was confiscated until the end of Cruise.
CRJ700 Posted November 5, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 5, 2014 I attempted to take a power strip in my luggage on my last cruise on the Pride and it was confiscated until the end of Cruise. Power strips always go in the carry on. I've never had one taken from there.
WindsorFred Posted November 5, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 5, 2014 Hi Flygirl :) When cruising my wife & I use a Belkin surge protector, (below). Very inexpensive & fits in our camera/camcorder bag. :) We use the same style. Nice to have the USB ports in addition to the AC outlets.
ylwdogsc Posted November 5, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 5, 2014 Make sure you get the Belkin Model BST300. They make two that look the same. The BST300 is a 2.1Amp (vs. 1Amp.) That will allow you to charge your tables via the USB ports. The 1Amp only has enough to charges cell phones, and small cameras.
beachbum53 Posted November 5, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 5, 2014 Hi Flygirl :) When cruising my wife & I use a Belkin surge protector, (below). Very inexpensive & fits in our camera/camcorder bag. :) This is like the one we use. On our last cruise (on the Liberty), because of the way the outlet was slightly recessed, the power strip had a tendency to lean down a bit out of the outlet. I used a paperback book to prop it up. Otherwise, no problems using it.
BigDoug Posted November 5, 2014 #8 Share Posted November 5, 2014 (edited) Hi Flygirl :) When cruising my wife & I use a Belkin surge protector, (below). Very inexpensive & fits in our camera/camcorder bag. :) This is the one that works best for us. The USB ports are perfect for charging those small devices.:D Edited November 5, 2014 by BigDoug
RDC1 Posted November 5, 2014 #9 Share Posted November 5, 2014 Instead of taking a power strip, why not just pick up an adapter or 2 so you can use the 220 sockets for your electronics. Most chargers are designed for 100-240 so they can be plugged in both. They are very inexpensive (just two round prongs to a US style plug). Probably cheaper then your power strip. That way you can use the other existing sockets. If you have something that needs the 110 you have it available. You don't risk overloading the one plug like you do with a power strip and you are compliant with line policy.

TheBubbs Posted November 6, 2014 #12 Share Posted November 6, 2014 I had the same results, I always packed it in my carryon with no issue, the one time I put it in my luggage it was confiscated.
carole15 Posted November 6, 2014 #13 Share Posted November 6, 2014 Do you take them out of the socket during the day? We have had ings unplugged when we came back to the room. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Taters Posted November 6, 2014 #14 Share Posted November 6, 2014 Just an FYI - I emailed Carnival about what type of plug in might be allowable for my required medical equipment the the special needs desk says they will provide one for me. I am quite pleased! Taters
Gamecock_Cruiser Posted November 6, 2014 #15 Share Posted November 6, 2014 I always go to Dollar Tree and get a new 3 way plug before each cruise. It seems like they don't have as much of an issue if it is new in the pack.
Tampa8 Posted November 6, 2014 #16 Share Posted November 6, 2014 I must say the poster who said they had theirs taken is the first I ever heard of it. In fact many sites about cruising as a tip tell you to take one. I have on our last four cruises.

In fact many sites about cruising as a tip tell you to take one. I have on our last four cruises. It might have been because I kept it in my bags instead of carry on but I still have the letter I got in my room saying it was confiscated and I could pick it up at the end of my cruise. I had been sailing from Baltimore on the pride for that one

Barbiegator Posted January 6, 2015 #21 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Took our 5 plug with extension cord last week and had to pick up an end of cruise. They brought a 5 strip surge protector and we used an extension cord we had brought. Need cord as have fan(which they didn't take) and CPAP machine. Think it depends on the scanner. JohnMI Posted January 7, 2015 #23 Share Posted January 7, 2015 For convenience for those that come looking for a recommendation (like me), here's a link to the Belkin one mentioned several times here (and it's the 2.1amp one so that it can charge all your USB stuff no problem): http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00ATZJ5YS/gtzso-20 - John... New models have USB chargers as well. Folds up neatly on itself and fits in the palm of your hand. Gives you 3-4 additional outlets from one. Good luck! sammee Posted January 7, 2015 #25 Share Posted January 7, 2015 I bought the Belkin 2.1 for my May cruise. Unfortunately the USBs stopped working. I'm going to use it for next week, but I'll just have to bring the extra adapter for my usbs. It is the perfect size.
