geocruiser Posted November 8, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 8, 2014 (edited) Captain just advised that LOS cannot dock at Halifax today (11/8/14) due to 75 mph wind factor. Tour and port tax fees will be credited. On to Boston. The winds are very high. How is the ride? I checked the forcast and did not see the high winds. Where was the ship when this happened? Stay safe. Edited November 8, 2014 by geocruiser
loubetti Posted November 8, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 8, 2014 75 mph winds are force 12 on the Beaufort scale, and are hurricane force. Pretty wise not to attempt docking! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaufort_scale
edjny Posted November 8, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 8, 2014 The Legend apparently has a limited amount of power on the thrusters. This past Winter we had to give up stopping at St Kitts due to strong winds (about 30 mph) blowing onto the side of the ship. The Captain tried twice, but was not able to control the ship well enough against the wind. Got an extra sea day and rebate of port and any RCL excursion charges. The people who paid in advance for private excursions were not happy.... :( That is just one of the risks of booking your own excursions in advance. pilotboy1985 Posted November 8, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 8, 2014 (edited) I live in Halifax. The winds here sure are strong this morning. This is a webcam showing where our cruise ships dock. http://www.novascotiawebcams.com/en/webcams/pier-21/ Edited November 8, 2014 by pilotboy1985
