colesGM Posted November 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2014 We are cruising in February 2015. My husband has back issues and real bumpy roads can be an issue. Navigator of the seas offers 3 mayan ruins excursions. Any thoughts on which would have the best road conditions would be greatly appreciated. Rare crewsweeper Posted November 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2014 Xunantunich is straight out the Western Highway with a short dirt road van trip. Road conditions are okay. Think older rural two lane highways in the US. Altun Ha is up the Northern Highway, similar for most of the trip with secondary road but paved as I recall for the last few miles. Lamanai is usually reached by boat and then a jungle dirt road. Can't speak of its condition. More recent cruisers can opine on what they felt the road conditions were. ABQrobin Posted November 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 12, 2014 We were just there and our Xunantunich tour was canceled due to roads being washed out by rains and the river you had to cross to be uncrossable at that time. A couple we met at dinner that night had done the Altun Ha trip with city tour. They said the road was very bumpy and the driver said "free back massages". LOL The couple said they survived but it was rough. Don't know if this was true or if they were exaggerating.
