Cruise, J.D. Posted November 14, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2014 Has anyone else received an email from Carnival asking you to do a survey on Carnival's music? I received one this morning and took the survey. I thought it was interesting that Caribbean steel drums were specifically mentioned. Here are screen shots from the survey:
nhraformula00 Posted November 14, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 14, 2014 No I did not get a survey, but the music by the pool from the DJ is terrible INOP. Bring back the steel drums, the way it used to be.
soccersharon Posted November 14, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 14, 2014 I received the same survey after my Breeze cruise. Sent from my phone. Typos are inevitable.
toledo_cruiser Posted November 14, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 14, 2014 No I did not get a survey, but the music by the pool from the DJ is terrible INOP. Bring back the steel drums, the way it used to be. I'm with you. I didn't realize how much I missed Caribbean groups on the Lido until my most recent Carnival cruise. A cruise in the Caribbean without the steel drums... What were they thinking! It just doesn't seem like a proper cruise without the "island" sounds. The DJs don't tend to play what I want to hear anyway. I didn't get the survey either. jim
stargate fan Posted November 14, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 14, 2014 Has anyone else received an email from Carnival asking you to do a survey on Carnival's music? I received one this morning and took the survey. I thought it was interesting that Caribbean steel drums were specifically mentioned. I did. I wrote that the steel drum music of days past made the cruise feel tropical. Now the Lido deck music makes me feel like I'm at a middle school dance. Not enjoyable at all. Brianswanda Posted November 14, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 14, 2014 Bring back "Tropical Fire"!!!! They made your cruise a real vacation! Sent from my iPad using Forums
pcvtmom Posted November 14, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 14, 2014 Yes, I got the same survey today. Love to have the steel drums back!

Steel drums get my cruise vacation off on the right foot. Carnival made a big mistake with the DJ thing. The Carnival DJs' choice of music is poor and it is played way too loud. I've read lots of posts here of people saying they can't even carry on a conversation with the DJ junk playing. I really thought Carnival just wasn't going to give up on the DJ thing. They have certainly been stubborn about it thus far in spite of complaints. I saw where they are even offering DJ Irie lessons now as an activity in Camp Carnival. I sure wouldn't encourage my kids toward that. IMO the DJ thing is one example of how Carnival became out of touch with the majority of its customers. I hope the music survey is a signal that Carnival is trying to get back on the right music track.
ccruisequeen Posted November 14, 2014 #9 Share Posted November 14, 2014 I manage to get a music survey every other time. A lot of it is I think what kind of Playlist shows we'd like to see. I still cruise for Warm Chocolate Melting Cake (with 2 sugar-free vanilla ice-creams)
Taters Posted November 15, 2014 #10 Share Posted November 15, 2014 I've never gotten a survey from any cruise line EVER. I do not care for the lido DJs. I don't listen to top 40 music - Never have, so what they play is really terrible, IMHO. The steel drum music, however seems to be a real crowd pleaser each and every time. sanmarcosman Posted November 15, 2014 #11 Share Posted November 15, 2014 I got the survey and suggested Carnival contract with steel drum bands to come aboard and play up until sail away by the lido pool and then send them ashore when the ship sails. This way Carnival can manage their costs and still provide the guests with a fun "let's get this party started" atmosphere through traditional Caribbean style music. OCruisers Posted November 15, 2014 #12 Share Posted November 15, 2014 Did NOT get this survey. Guess Carnival does NOT care about what we think. LuLu
Sarapdot Posted November 15, 2014 #13 Share Posted November 15, 2014 I have not gotten this survey either. I wish I had. My friends and I went to the night club on our recent Magic cruise ready to have a great time and dance the night away. When we arrived they were playing slow dance music (think 8th grade farewell dance). We asked the DJ and he said they were playing slow dance music for couples for the next 2 hours. I'm not a "couple" and did not care for this, we left unhappy. I always thought the atrium and ocean plaza were designed for this type of slow dancing. I'm sure if I were in love I would have a different opinion but the night club is not the place for this. klct39lg Posted November 15, 2014 #14 Share Posted November 15, 2014 I just filled out my post cruise survey and there was a pick your 3 favorite types of music question. I don't mind dj music if it were turned down a bit. But island type music is good too. It shouldn't have to be one or the other.
tbbtravels Posted November 15, 2014 #15 Share Posted November 15, 2014 (edited) I didn't get that survey. We prefer the island type of music when cruising. Makes it feel like a vaca. Not a fan of the dj's ,,,agree - makes it feel like 8th grade,,,,Let the cruise director handle the activities or kid carnival. katiel53 Posted November 15, 2014 #16 Share Posted November 15, 2014 We got the survey and I also voiced that they needed some steel drum music. I don't like the music that is played by the DJ on deck most of the time. I loved the music played on Liberty in the casino. The group was called Music Mix and they did a lot of 80's music. Even though I like oldies (50's rock) they did a great job and had so many people dancing and even dancing in their seats. I wish there were a lot more bands like that on the ships. Orison Posted November 15, 2014 #17 Share Posted November 15, 2014 Yes, bring back the steel drums! Now that we know they are looking at the music issue, survey or not, Carnival should get deluged with music input. Everyone should use every media possible. They're listening. Let's TALK! jerseyjjs Posted November 15, 2014 #18 Share Posted November 15, 2014 Yes, I received a survey after my Breeze sailing last month. I agree with the elimination of the DJ. At one point during a sea day, he actually played 3 songs from the 80s that had people of all ages singing, swaying in the loungers and a few even up and dancing. Then, almost on cue, he went back to the rap/techno/dance club garbage and it was overwhelming how all the smiles and dancing abruptly ended. californiatripman Posted November 15, 2014 #19 Share Posted November 15, 2014 I also received the survey. PLEASE bring back the steel drums along with island music mixed in with a little reggae. Good bye DJ please!

kelkel2 Posted November 16, 2014 #21 Share Posted November 16, 2014 I haven't gotten the survey, but I'll check my junk folder just in case. I hope I do get it. I enjoy top 40 when listening to iTunes or my radio in my car, but when I'm on vacation I really do prefer the steel drum music. It made me feel like I was on vacation. I can listen to top 40 anytime, vacation would be a great time to listen to something more tropical!!!
rainbowflag Posted November 16, 2014 #22 Share Posted November 16, 2014 We sent it back and commented that DJs should be instructed to read their audience better and play what the crowd enjoys and not what the DJ feels like playing.

mikenbon Posted November 17, 2014 #25 Share Posted November 17, 2014 I didn't get the survey, but I wish I did. It would be great if steel drum music was brought back before our spring cruise. We sure missed having it on our previous cruises.
