Yes $ and 5% is correct :)

Do it the other way around and save 5%!

Take cash in USD then if you have any left over following your (inevitable) losing spree use it to pay off (or reduce) your account at Guest relations the day before disembarking.

Not sure I understand. Celebrity OBC is use it or lose it, so if you don't buy stuff using in the casino is the other way to get it back. Not sure how bringing cash changes the situation.

The reason I question this is we have quite a bit of Celebrity OBC and drinks and tips are already paid for. Since we do use the casino this sounded like a good way to use our OBC without buying stuff we don't want or need.

We are non gamblers, so no knowledge of casino. Is it $ they provide for the casino, or tokens.....thinking for the slot machines it must be tokens?

Thanks.

It is cash. Hard cold cash. But there is a 5% surcharge.

We usually end up cashing in some of our OBC there.

I never imagined that anyone could spend a week or more on board and not spend the small amount of OBC if that is the case. though,it will cost you 5% to get cash at the casiino

I beg to differ. With some of the current promotions from Celebrity, we are not dealing with small amounts of obc. On my next sailing I'll have $500 obc with gratuities pre paid, and drink package included. Friends on the same sailing have $800 obc plus the perks.

Even with the 5% surcharge, using obc in the casino might be desirable to some.

Exactly. Not sure what I'd spend it on. All drinks and tips are paid. All our excursions are private tours and we think the specialty restaurants are not really worth paying extra for. What else is there besides shopping? I will probably but a shirt buy I'll still have over $250 of Celebrity's money to use or lose and that's not counting TA money. But I can get TA money back.

enjoy

I was answering the OPs post :)

I think the OP is talking about non refundable OBC that you would lose if you didn't spend or withdraw it, this is the kind that comes from celebrity. Refundable OBC that comes from your TA or you've put on the account yourself is refundable and will be returned either to your CC or in cash at the end of the cruise.

What about the different OBC, refundable and non refundable, if you have both, do they still refund you the balance? We had some as part of the 123go, so non refundable, and then we purchased some before we went, so it showed as refundable. We used more than both amounts, but wondered if you would get a refund still, or would they use the refundable first somehow? Had anyone experience with that?

They use the non refundable first. I've had both and got a refund of all of the refundable :)

Celebrity FAQ for "while on the ship" says you cannot use OBC in the casino. Hmmm!

My question is, can you use it the specialty shops that sell jewelry, watches, etc? I thought these were independent from Celebrity. We are booked on 2 X cruises (each 14 days) in 2015, and we also have the all inclusive 123GO offer, and we don't gamble anyway.

Most of things to buy on a Celebrity Ship (Spa - Shops - Photo Services - Excursions) are contracted out... But you can most definitely use up your OBC on them. Everything goes on your SeaPass Card, and then the OBC in your Shipboard Account offsets them

You can also use OBC on Celebrity things as well... Specialty Dining - Beverages - Celebrity Gifts etc

Cheers!

Just off Equinox transatlantic. For those who want to use OBC in the casino, they were offering slot pkgs the first 3 days of the cruise, waiving the 5% surcharge.

Of course, no cash was issued. Slot play was loaded onto your card so you did have to use the full amount in the casino.
